Mahindra Thar waiting period exceeds 1 year

Mahindra took the market by storm when they launched the second generation of Thar last year in the Indian market. We already know that the waiting period of the Thar is increasing. Well, according to the recent reports the waiting period for the Thar has crossed 12 months. This is true for the black paint with a hardtop. Obviously, the waiting period depends on the variant, colour and engine you opt for.

Thar is also offered with a soft-top convertible but most people are opting for the hardtop because it is just more practical. There are six colours to choose from. There is Galaxy Grey, Rocky Beige, Rage Red, Aquamarine, Mystic Copper and Napoli Black. The base price of the Thar is Rs. 12.11 lakhs ex-showroom while the top-end costs Rs. 14.16 lakhs ex-showroom.

There are several reasons why the demand for Thar increased so much.

Better insulated

The new Thar is better insulated than the previous one. So, the cabin stays relatively quiet. Their engines are refined so you do not hear them. There is no road noise from the All-Terrain tyres that are running on 18-inch alloy wheels. The cabin stays quiet, even when you cross triple-digit speeds.

Ride quality and handling

Mahindra has reworked the ladder frame chassis and the new Thar runs on Independent Double Wishbone type suspension instead of leaf springs. This has improved the ride quality and handling massively. The SUV feels much more stable on highways while doing triple-digit speeds. It also now has a much more compliant suspension. So, now it absorbs bumps and speed breakers much more easily. The Thar feels more comfortable while driving on bad patches of road.

More spacious, practical and safe

The dimensions of the Thar have also gone up significantly. Due to this, the Thar now comes with proper front-facing rear seats with enough legroom. So, if you have a nuclear family, then Thar can be your only vehicle as four people can travel at once comfortably. Also, Thar was able to get a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test.

Option of petrol engine and an automatic transmission

Mahindra is offering the Thar with a petrol and a diesel engine. You can get both engines with a manual gearbox or an automatic transmission. This has attracted many new customers. Now, you can get the convenience of one-pedal driving in your proper off-roader. You still get all the bells and whistles and the 4×4 system.

Specs

The petrol engine produces 150 PS of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque while the diesel engine produces 130 PS of max power and 300 Nm of peak torque. Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

More versions of Thar coming

Mahindra is also working on two new versions of Thar. It is expected that the Thar will become more affordable with a smaller capacity engine. This information has not been confirmed by the manufacturer but what they have confirmed is a 5-door version of the Thar which is expected to launch next year.
