Kia Carnival with Rs 3.5 lakh discount now costs less than Toyota Innova Crysta

Kia started offering discounts on its most expensive car in the Indian market – the Carnival last month. This month, the luxurious MPV continues to be available at a cash discount. However, only selected dealerships will offer the discount depending on the stock availability of the car.

Kerala-based Incheon Kia is offering a discount of Rs 3.5 lakh on the Carnival. The dealership’s promotional post says that the base variant of the car is now available at Rs 21.6 lakh instead of the official price of Rs 25.11 lakh. That is a massive drop in the entry-level price. This will allow the customers planning to buy the top-end variant of the Toyota Innova Crysta to explore their options further.

The entry-level price of the Toyota Innova Crysta diesel is Rs 21.8 lakh, which makes the Kia Carnival cheaper. The Kia Carnival only offer a single-engine option of a 2.2-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum power of 200 PS and a peak torque of 440 Nm. Only an automatic transmission is available with the Carnival.

Even though there are no direct rivals of Carnival in the Indian market, Kia struggles with the sales numbers. In May 2021, Kia started the offer of the ‘Satisfaction Guarantee Scheme’ for the buyers.  Under the new offer, customers buying the Carnival can return the car within 30 days of its purchase.

Kia Carnival in India

Kia launched the Carnival in the Indian market last year at the 2020 Auto Expo. It has remained a popular choice for many. The Carnival sits between the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Toyota Alphard in the market and it does not compete with any other vehicle in the segment. Until now, Kia has sold more than 6,200 units of the Carnival, signalling a decent interest in the vehicle.

Kia has launched the next-generation Carnival in the international markets. Even though Kia India is yet to officially announce the arrival of the all-new Carnival in the Indian market, several reports claim that the new Carnival should arrive in the Indian market later this year.

Kia is also working on an all-new MPV. The new MPV will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo in the Indian market. Internally codenamed as KY, the all-new MPV is likely to enter the Indian market by the end of this year or sometime early next year. Kia will continue to focus on the SUV and MPV segment in India due to the high demand for these segments.
