Rs 4 lakh car to rule the segment, again?

Maruti as a manufacturer has not launched many products this year. But they do have a list of upcoming cars soon. The first of these will be the next-generation Celerio, an important launch for the company. Similar to the Celerio, new-generation Maruti Alto is another important product for the brand. Alto as a product is known for its low maintenance cost and high reliability. The car has been waiting for a generation update for quite some time now, which we think will make its way to the market in the coming time. In today’s article, we will discuss this Rs 4 lakh car and try to establish its segment-ruling elements.

7 upcoming Maruti cars in India + BONUS

Exterior design

Maruti Alto

The new-generation Alto is likely to come with smooth-edged body panels, in a similar fashion to the upcoming Maruti Celerio. It will get a completely new front end, featuring a new grille. The bumpers will also be new. This will give the next-generation Maruti Alto a completely fresh design. It is also expected to get a new rear section with newly designed taillamps. We are also expecting LED DRLs with the car this time.

Interior design

The interiors of the Maruti Alto are quite dated and are in need of a major overhaul. We are expecting a modern dashboard layout with the next-generation car. Features like a twin-pod instrument cluster, new multi-function steering wheel, new AC vent design and new seating & upholstery are expected with the car.

Almost all the new cars from Maruti have shifted to the Heartect platform. So we can expect the Alto to also be based on the Heartect platform as well. Considering the fact that the S-Presso is also built on the Heartect platform, it shouldn’t be much of an issue for Maruti to use this platform on the Alto. A new platform might also open possibilities to use the 1000cc engine that we see on the Maruti S-Presso.

Features

Rs 4 lakh car

The current generation misses out on a lot of features due to its budget pricing however, we expect Maruti to load the new-generation Alto with decent features. We might get all four power windows, a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, driver and co-driver seat belt reminder and speed alert system are expected to be some of the features.

Pricing and launch

The current-gen Maruti Alto starts from Rs 3.56 lakh and goes to Rs 5.32 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The next generation will be priced slightly higher in order to justify the additions done to the car. The launch of Alto has been delayed due to the pandemic and is expected to occur somewhere around mid-2022.
