The Alto is on top of the pile as ever

Entry-level hatchback sales in July 2021 improved well in comparison with the same period last year and leading the pack is the Maruti Alto.

The most popular small car found 12,867 new takers last month, and was well ahead of second-placed S-Presso, 6818 units of which Maruti retailed in July.

Renault sold 3287 units of the Kwid, while Datsun shifted 37 units of the redi-GO during the same period. In total, the small cars registered sales of 23,009 units, which is a 10 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth in sales.

The cars in the list registered sales of 63,415 units which is a solid 37 percent YoY growth

Like in the month of June, the Maruti Wagon R (22,836 units) was the leader of July 2021 hatchback sales in India. It defeated the Swift (18,434 units) by a good margin this time around as well.

The Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS came third, having registered sales of 9379 units, while Tata retailed 6794 units of the Tiago during the same period.

Then comes the Maruti Ignis with 3797 unit sales and the Hyundai Santro which found 1949 new homes. The Maruti Celerio’s dismal outing in June is temporary and once its replacement goes on sale later this month, things will change.

The gap between the Baleno and Altroz is huge

It is the Maruti Baleno which topped the premium hatchback sales in July 2021 with 14,729 unit sales, while the Tata Altroz (6980 units) once again grabbed the second spot.

Hyundai retailed 6518 units of the i20 this past month, while the Toyota Glanza found 2636 new takers during the same period.

Volkswagen sold 1616 units of the Polo, Honda shifted 586 units if the Jazz and Ford managed to find 168 new buyers for its Freestyle in July.

Overall, the premium hatchbacks registered sales of 33,233 units combined, which is a 36 percent growth in sales when compared with July 2020.
