Tata has been very aggressive with its SUV lineup. The SUV lineup has primarily helped Tata to revive itself in the Indian market. They currently have SUVs in various segments, but they are looking to expand it even further. The brand is looking to create a new SUV segment, the micro-SUV segment, with its HBX. This micro-SUV segment will cater to people looking for an SUV-like feel but want a smaller and more affordable car. In today’s article, we will be looking at this Rs 6 lakh compact SUV.
Rs 6 lakh compact SUV design
The HBX will carry forward Tata’s Impact 2.0 design language. It will get sleek eyebrow DRLs with headlamps on the bumper, similar to the Harrier and Safari. The HBX will also get a faux skid plate on the bumper, glossy black grille and diamond-cut alloy wheels. The overall design of the car will help it resonate with the current car lineup of Tata Motors. We will also get to see the HBX with the tri-arrow design theme on the interior as well as the exterior.
Specifications
The HBX will be based on Tata’s ALFA platform, the same platform on which Altroz is based. It will be very similar to the Nexon and will carry a tall boy design due to its height & width. Seeing Tata’s push towards safety, it is expected to get a good GNCAP rating as well. The Tata HBX will be powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated Revotron engine. We also expect a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine to be on offer. Transmission options will include a five-speed manual and an AMT gearbox.
Rs 6 lakh compact SUV features
Features play an important role in the Indian car market. The HBX will come with features like rectangular AC vents, floating touchscreen unit, semi-digital instrument cluster, adjustable headrests, premium sound system and multi-function steering wheel. It will also get a basic version of connected car tech. Other safety features will include dual airbags, ABS with EBD as standard.
Pricing and expected launch
Tata might launch the HBX during the festive season by September end or early October. The price of the car is expected to start from Rs 6 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It will compete with the new Maruti Celerio, Maruti Ignis and the upcoming Hyundai Casper.
