Maruti Suzuki S-Cross with more than 200 bhp is an absolute sleeper

Not many people are aware but Maruti Suzuki launched the S-Cross with a Fiat-sourced 1.6 diesel engine. Because it was a direct import, it was priced higher than the 1.3-litre diesel engine. Enthusiasts loved the engine for its performance and torquey nature. The engine produced 120 hp of max power and 320 Nm of peak torque. It was offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Here, we have an S-Cross that has been tuned to produce 200 bhp of max power and 420 Nm of peak torque.

The vehicle belongs to Instagram user Dr.Naren. He has done quite a bit of modification to the S-Cross to make it this powerful. This S-Cross could be the most powerful S-Cross in our country. The power and torque outputs after modifications were calculated at the crank. At the wheels, the power output is 190 hp and peak torque is 421 Nm.

The performance modifications include a Wolf Moto Stage 3 ECU Remap running High Boost. The Decat downpipe is sourced from Blackworks. The turbocharger has been upgraded for a Garrett GTB1549V. This also involved upgrading the intercooler which is also sourced from Garrett. The hoses were also upgraded for Silicone hoses by Engineering Exponents.

The S-Cross can hit a ton in just 6.9 seconds. The suspension has also been upgraded. It now gets Eibach Progressive Lowering Springs and is running dampers from KYB. To handle the additional power, the brake pads have been upgraded. It now uses EBC Yellowstuff brake pads for the front and EBC Ultimax2 pads for the rear. The tyres are also upgraded for Michelin Primacy 4ST.

The visual upgrades are minimal. It is possible that you don’t even notice them at the first glance. Up-front there is a different grille that belongs to the European S-Cross. It does not use the stock alloy wheels. The owner has opted for Lenso Jäger Dyna rims that measure 16-inches in size. This S-Cross is a proper sleeper as it does not shout performance or looks sporty. Other people would only notice the performance when the S-Cross zooms past them. The cost of all these modifications have not been shared by the owner but it seems like the cost is worth it.

S-Cross

The S-Cross is sold only with a single petrol engine. The 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine produces 105 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 138 Nm. It is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or you can get a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. It is priced at Rs. 8.39 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way upto Rs. 12.39 lakhs ex-showroom.

New S-Cross under works

Maruti Suzuki is developing a new SUV that will be replacing the ageing S-Cross. The S-Cross never really sold well because the design was not very attractive and the interior quality was behind the competitors. Also, it also lacked in the feature list.

The new S-Cross is expected to get unveiled in Europe in 2022. It will get an all-new exterior as well as an interior. The engine will now get hybrid technology. This will help in reducing emissions and increasing fuel economy. Toyota will be helping in developing the hybrid powertrain of the new S-Cross.
