Indian Cricket player, Sunil Gavaskar who is now a cricked administrator and commentator has bought a new MG Hector Plus. He bought the SUV in a dual-tone colour which is called Candy White with a Black roof. Sunil has chosen the 6 seater version and the variant details are not known yet.

The Hector Plus is a larger version of the Hector. To be precise, it is 65 mm longer at 4,720 mm. The width, height and wheelbase stay the same. You can get the Hector Plus as a 6-seater or a 7-seater. The 6-seater version is available in three variants, namely Super, Smart, and Sharp and the 7-seater version is available in four variants namely, Style, Super, Smart, and Select.

Engines

The Hector Plus is offered with a petrol engine, mild-hybrid petrol engine and a diesel engine. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 143 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 250 Nm. As standard, you get a 6-speed annual gearbox. There are two automatic transmissions available. However, they are available only with the 6-seater version. There is a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and an 8-speed CVT.

Then there is the mild-hybrid variant which comes with the turbo petrol engine. The power output of the engine stays the same but there is an additional 48V battery that adds E-boost, regenerative braking and engine idle start/stop. This helps in increasing fuel efficiency.

There is also a 2.0-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine available with the Hector Plus. It puts out 170 PS of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to only a 6-speed manual gearbox and there is no automatic gearbox on offer with the diesel engine.

Price and competitors

The Hector Plus starts at Rs. 13.96 lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to Rs. 19.94 lakhs ex-showroom. It has to compete against the Mahindra XUV 500, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, Toyota Innova Crysta and the recently unveiled Mahindra XUV 700.
