Volkswagen will launch the all-new Taigun to enter the mid-size SUV segment in India. Based on the India-specific MQB-A0-IN platform, the Taigun will be the second car on this platform after the Skoda Kushaq. Volkswagen has already started accepting bookings and has announced that the production has started.
The German manufacturer will now announce the prices and the variants of the all-new Taigun on 23rd September. Volkswagen will launch the all-new Taigun with only petrol engine options. However, there will be two engine options.

The lower-powered variants of the Taigun will get the 1.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine while the more powerful variants will get the 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine. Both will offer manual as well as automatic transmission options. The 1.5-litre engine will offer DSG automatic while the 1.0-litre will come with a torque converter automatic.

Since Skoda is heading India 2.0 strategy, it will first launch the Kushaq in the Indian market. Following the launch of the Kushaq, Volkswagen will launch the Taigun. Skoda released the Kushaq back in July and it is already selling in decent numbers in the market.
Launched two years after concept
Volkswagen Taigun was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and the production version of the SUV that we drove recently was not much different. In terms of design, Taigun gets Volkswagen’s signature grille at the front with chrome inserts. The headlamps look sleek and act as an extended part of the front grille itself.
It is based on the MQB AO-IN platform and is the same platform that is also used in the Skoda Kushaq. Volkswagen Taigun is available in two engine options. Like many other manufacturers, the Volkswagen group has also given away with diesel engines and are concentrating on petrol engines.
It is powered by two turbocharged petrol engines. There is a 1.0-litre TSI engine that generates 115 Ps and 178 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with manual and automatic transmission options. Next is the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine which generates 150 Ps and 250 Nm of peak torque. This engine is available with manual and a 7-speed DSG gearbox option.
The Taigun’s design looks unmistakably Volkswagen signature design. At the front, it gets a bold grille with horizontal slats. Since we drove only the GT Line variants, Volkswagen will offer two variants under the GT group. The fully-loaded GT gets more chrome than the lower-end variant. There are other differences too.
