MG Motors is preparing for the launch of the all-new Astor in the Indian market. However, MG Motors is also preparing its best-selling model – the Hector. MG has now rejiggled the variants of the Hector just before the festive season sales boon.
MG Motor India has rejigged the variants of the Hector and has discontinued the mid-spec variant – the Super. The information is according to an updated brochure available on the official website of MG Motors. The brand has not officially announced the discontinuation of the variants at the moment.
The mid-size SUV is now available in four trims – Style, Shine, Smart and Sharp. The change comes after MG Motors introduced a new Shine variant in the model line-up. It is positioned above the Super variant and offers more features too.

The Shine variant offers extra features like a sunroof, push start-stop button, electric parking brake, 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, and a new shade that is officially known as Havana Grey.
The now-discontinued Super variant offered three engine options. There was a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, same 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with Hybrid and a 2.0-litre diesel. However, the only manual transmission was available with this variant.
Price increased
MG Motors has also increased the prices of a few selected variants of the model that are powered by the diesel engine option. The Smart trim of the model powered by the diesel engine is now Rs 50,000 more expensive while the price of the top-end Sharp variant is up by Rs 55,000.
The model comes powered by both petrol and diesel engine options. There is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 141 Bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. It is also available with a hybrid system. MG offers the petrol engine with a manual, CVT automatic and DCT automatic option in the Indian market.
The diesel engine options are powered by the 2.0-litre diesel engine sourced from Stellantis Group. It produces a maximum power of 168 Bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. It is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.
The Hector remains the best-selling vehicle from the manufacturer. MG has sold over 25,000 units of the Hector in the 2020 calendar year. The MG ZS EV has clocked 1,243 units in the 2020 calendar year.
MG will soon launch the Astor in the Indian market to take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the Indian market. The Astor will become the first car in the segment to offer ADAS or Advanced Driving Assistance System. The Level-2 ADAS can perform a long list of manoeuvres.
