Royal Enfield Scram 411 launch timeline unveiled

Royal Enfield is working on a scrambler version of the Himalayan. It will be called Scram 411. According to the sources of HT Auto, Royal Enfield will be launching the Scram 411 in February next year. It will be the first motorcycle by Royal Enfield to launch in 2022.

The new motorcycle has been spotted quite a few times on the Indian roads while testing and a clay model of the motorcycle has already been leaked. It will be a more affordable and road-oriented version of the Himalayan. So, it will be positioned below the Himalayan.

Royal Enfield will make cosmetic changes to the Himalayan so that it looks more like a scrambler. So, the front windscreen will no longer be there, the side skeleton and luggage rack has been removed. The side skeleton was for people who often toured as they would be able to mount jerry cans on the frame. The front 21-inch wheel has been replaced with an 18-inch one. Royal Enfield has also removed the front fork gaiters.

Now, there is a new headlamp cowl, side shrouds on which 411 will be written. The front raised mudguard has also been replaced with a conventional one. The test mules of Scram has also been spotted with panniers which you can buy from Royal Enfield or through their Make-It-Yours programme. The rear LED tail lamp is the same as the Himalayan.

There will be no change to the engine configuration. It will stay the same 411-cc, single-cylinder engine that is air-oil cooled. The engine produces 24.3 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of 32 Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

The engine is one aspect of Himalayan which has been criticized by some people. For a motorcycle, that weighs around 200 kgs, 24.3 bhp seems a bit underpowered. It seems like the engine is running out of breath at higher speeds. The current engine is still a significant improvement over the first iteration. Having said that, if a person knows what he is getting into and is a bit realistic then he won’t be disappointed with the Himalayan. That is why it is still selling in good numbers.

Upcoming more powerful Himalayan

According to the rumours, Royal Enfield has been working on a more powerful version of the Himalayan. It is currently under development at the UK development centre. It is being said that, Royal Enfield is trying to increase the engine capacity to upto 450 cc which should help them to increase the power output to 30 bhp.

The new motorcycle could be a more hardcore and more capable version of the current Himalayan. It would be positioned above the current Himalayan 411. It is not known as of now whether Royal Enfield will keep the current Himalayan or will discontinue it when the Himalayan 450 launches. The rumours suggest that the Himalayan 450 could get showcased by the end of 2022 and the bookings will start from 2023.
