Maruti Grand Vitara prices leak online: To be cheaper than the Hyundai Creta

Maruti Suzuki unveiled the Grand Vitara mid-size SUV a week ago, and is expected to officially reveal prices sometime in early September, when the actual launch will take place. Even before the official launch, prices of the Maruti Grand Vitara seem to have been leaked by the FinancialExpress. We can’t vouch for the authenticity of the leaked prices though.

Variant MT AT
Sigma Rs 9.50 lakh
Delta Rs 11.00 lakh Rs 12.50 lakh
Zeta Rs 12.00 lakh Rs 13.50 lakh
Alpha Rs 13.50 lakh Rs 15.00 lakh
Alpha AWD Rs 15.50 lakh

As the leaked prices indicate, the entry-level mild hybrid Sigma trim of the Grand Vitara will start at Rs. 9.5 lakh ex-showroom, making the SUV cheaper than the best selling Hyundai Creta.

Creta prices start from Rs. 10.44 lakh. Notably, this is a similar strategy Maruti Suzuki adopted with the S-Cross, which was priced significantly lower than the Creta. Notably, the Grand Vitara replaces the S-Cross in Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA line-up. Bookings for the Grand Vitara are now open across all NEXA dealerships.

According to the leaked price figures, the mild hybrid engined Grand Vitara will be offered in 5 trims spread across 8 variants. Apart from the Sigma trim, the manual gearbox equipped variants will also be available in Delta, Zeta, Alpha and Alpha AWD trims. The 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox will be offered with the Zeta and Alpha trims. The manual variants will get a 5 speed gearbox. The 1.5 liter-4 cylinder K15C petrol engine (102 Bhp-135 Nm) will be offered with both gearboxes.

Variant Price
Zeta Plus Rs 17.00 lakh
Alpha Plus Rs 18.00 lakh

The Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid will be sold in Zeta Plus and Alpha Plus trims, and will be priced at Rs. 17 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh respectively. The Strong Hybrid powertrain on the Grand Vitara is a 1.5 liter Toyota-sourced petrol unit (91 Bhp-122 Nm) paired with an electric motor (78 Bhp-141  Nm). A CVT automatic gearbox with five stepped shifts drives the front wheels.

Through the unveil, Maruti Suzuki has given us a glimpse at the generous equipment levels on the top-of-the-line Grand Vitara. A panoramic sunroof that’s largest in class, ventilated seats, 360 degree camera, all wheel drive, full-electric mode, exceptional fuel efficiency of about 28 Kmpl in the strong hybrid are just some of the key highlights of the upcoming SUV. If Maruti Suzuki indeed manages to price the Grand Vitara at the levels indicated by these leaked prices, it’ll have a big winner on its hands.

Meanwhile, Toyota is set to launch the Hyryrder Urban Cruiser SUV in India on the 16th of August. The Hyryder and the Grand Vitara are the same SUVs save for the styling, and the badging. Both SUVs will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi factory, near Bengaluru. The launch price of the Hyryder should give us a fair indication on what to expect with the Grand Vitara.
