Mahindra teases 5 new electric vehicles that are ‘Born Electric’, unveiling in 16 days

The country’s largest SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Limited has been teasing the nation with its forthcoming ‘born electric’ SUV range for a while now. But apart from a few pictures and a small teaser we have not seen anything substantial. Until very recently when the automaker released a huge teaser in which it showcased not one, two or three but rather five new upcoming SUVs from its electric vehicle range. The company in its official glimpse displayed the silhouettes of five electric vehicles just ahead of their global debut in the UK on 15 August.

Mahindra discreetly unveiled the shots of the forthcoming crossover, two SUV coupes, a compact SUV, and what appears to be a vehicle with a trophy truck-like appearance. And as we have already seen, as part of a brand-new, universal design language, the Born EVs have C-shaped headlights and taillights. A dual-screen panel for the infotainment and driver’s displays, a panoramic glass top, and ambient lighting are just a few of the interior elements we’ll hear more about on August 15.

The new EVs will be on exhibit at the Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) facility in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, where Pratap Bose, chief designer, works. According to the tagline “born electric,” every SUV has been designed from the ground up to be an electric vehicle. These SUVs will mark the automaker’s entry into the long-range electric vehicles segment and judging by the hype around it seems like these will become a huge crowd pleaser in the country.

Earlier in March of this year, Mahindra also released a teaser in which the interior of the born electric SUVs was showcased and it looked very similar to the one found on the XUV700. The interior teaser showed these will come with a large rectangular screen that will split into two units. So, there will be a digital instrument cluster whereas the second unit will be a touchscreen infotainment system. The centre console also has a rotary dial and a couple of cup holders. The red colour might signify ambient lighting.

In other Mahindra news, recently it was reported that Mahindra is now working on a more practical 5-door version of their popular 4×4 SUV Thar. More details related to the 5-door Thar have now surfaced online and R Velusamy, Senior Vice President, Head – Automotive Product Development, MRV, Mahindra recently confirmed to a media outlet that the upcoming 5-door version of the Mahindra Thar will be based on the same platform as recently launched Scorpio N.

According to the vice president, Mahindra will make just minimal alterations to the new Thar, even though it will be built on the more rigid Scorpio N chassis. Mahindra Thar, a 5-door vehicle, will only feature two rows of seats compared to the Scorpio N. This indicates that the 5-door Thar will be shorter in length than the Scorpio N, which is 4.7 metres long. The Mahindra Thar’s current three-door model has a number of serious problems, including the fact that it is not particularly practical. It cannot be utilised as a typical 5-door automobile because it is an off-road lifestyle vehicle. There is very little room for baggage in the boot and the second-row seats are not particularly roomy.
