Scorpio-N garners 1 lakh bookings in just 30 minutes!

The country’s largest SUV manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra Limited took the entire nation by storm when it unveiled the newest iteration of its legendary SUV, the Scorpio-N. But what it managed to achieve on its first day of bookings is even more impressive. Mahindra, following the commencement of reservations for the Scorpio-N, revealed that it recorded over 1,00,000 bookings for the model within 30 minutes of the booking commencement at 11:00 am yesterday.

Mahindra further stated that the result of this overwhelming response was a total ex-showroom value of ~₹18,000 crores / ~USD 2.3 billion.

The bookings for the Scorpio-N commenced online on Mahindra’s official website and for the most part, the website was able to handle the influx of the huge number of waiting customers. However, the automaker did confirm that there was a brief glitch with the payment gateway provider. In its official statement yesterday the company also stated that it reassures its clients that their time stamps prior to payments are appropriately recorded on the booking platform. Therefore, each client will be placed in the right order sequence, and the first 25,000 clients will be provided special introductory pricing based on this order.

Furthermore, the OEM also announced that for the first 25,000 reservations, the All-New Scorpio-N will be available at introductory pricing. Meanwhile, the costs for future reservations will be determined by the costs in effect at the time of delivery. Also, interested customers could also still visit the company’s official website or the dealership to reserve their All-New Scorpio-N.

As for the deliveries of the reserved vehicles the company will begin handing them to their awaiting owners by September 26, 2022, onwards. The brand iterated that it has planned to deliver over 20,000 units of the Scorpio-N by December of this year itself, wherein the company will prioritise the Z8L variant of the SUV. Mahindra will also inform the customers about their delivery date by the end of August 2022.

Pricing of the Scorpio-N was released just a few days ago and it starts at Rs. 11.99 lakh, ex-showroom for the Z2 Petrol-MT and goes all the way up to Rs 19.49 lakh for the Z8 Diesel-MT 0 in the country. The price of the 4WD variants is Rs 2.45 lakh more than the respective 2WD variant. Automatic variants of the new SUV are about Rs. 2 lakh pricier than manual trims. The most affordable 4WD variant is the Z4 diesel 4WD manual and gets a price tag of Rs 16.44 lakh, ex-showroom.

The Scorpio-N continues to retain a body-on-ladder chassis, which has been developed from scratch for the latest model. The new SUV comes with brand new suspension, more powerful engines, a four-wheel drive option and a range of creature comforts never offered on the Scorpio line-up ever before. Also, the interior quality of the new SUV is a big step up, and Mahindra has even gone to the extent of comparing the features on offer in the Scorpio-N with those of the Toyota Fortuner.

The new Scorpio is offered with 2 engine options: a 2.2 litre-4 cylinder mHawk turbocharged diesel and a 2.0 litre-4 cylinder mFalcon turbocharged petrol. Both engines get 6-speed manual gearboxes that drive the rear wheels as standard, while 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes are also on offer as options.

The diesel motor makes 130 Bhp-300 Nm on the base trim while higher manual trims get a more powerful 172 Bhp-370 Nm state of tune. Automatic diesel trims get the 172 Bhp-400 Nm state of tune. The turbo petrol engine – across trims – makes 200 Bhp-370 Nm for the manual and 200 Bhp-380 Nm for the automatic. A four-wheel drive transfer case will be offered as well but it remains to be seen whether both the petrol and diesel engines will get this option or if 4 wheel drive will be limited to the diesel motor.
