The Fortuner is a car that doesn’t need any introduction as such. It has created an aura of its own which makes it the king of its segment. Another reason for its triumphant outcome is the void of a fierce rival which has made this Toyota second to none. However, we could see a storm trailing down the sales of this Toyota. What type of storm are we looking at? We are talking about a new Fortuner rival coming in June 2023.

Nissan India is highly ambitious in the SUV sector and has unveiled 3 new cars in the past years. The biggest amongst these 3 was the X-Trail which is essentially a Fortuner rivalling car in the Indian market. Packed with all the tech and features, this car also packs in some serious built-to-last capabilities which have been a major USP for all Toyotas. What else does the X-Trail get? Read below.

Talking about its dimensions,  the X-Trail measures 4,681mm in length, 1,840mm in width, and has a height of 1,730mm. Making a comeback in India in the 4th generation avatar, the new X-Trail looks more aggressive and bold than its predecessor in India. As it gets a 3-row seating layout, it gets a long wheelbase of 2,706mm resulting in better space and roomy interiors. The exterior styling of the car cladding, roof rails, high ground clearance, Nissan’s signature V-motion front grille, and other SUV-specific DNA. The overall charm of the car has been maintained and looks resemble its big brother – Nissan Patrol.

The Nissan X-Trail is packed with a lot of goodies that easily take it a step above the Fortuner. This rival from Fortuner’s home country gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an electronic parking brake, auto hold, driving modes, a 360-degree parking camera, a Heads Up Display, a panoramic sunroof, ADAS, etc on its feature list.

The X-Trail would launch in India with petrol as the only fuel option. However, the petrol mill is set to couple with mild hybrid and strong hybrid technologies to enhance the economy factor. 2WD and AWD powertrains would be made available for better off-road capabilities. The powerhouse options would range between a 1.5-litre mild hybrid mill producing 188bhp and 250Nm of torque. Then, if we move towards the strong hybrid setups, a 2WD ‘e-Power’ variant would be offered to make 201bhp and 330Nm of torque. The top of the lone ‘e-4orce’ AWD variant is also available which makes 210bhp and 525Nm of torque. The transmission option is only limited to a CVT transmission.

The car has been spotted testing on Indian tarmac near its factory in Chennai. The car will follow the CBU production route, limiting its sale number and pricing. As it is likely to rival the Fortuner, we can expect the pricing to start from Rs 40lakh. The launch is slated for mid-2023. What do you think of this car? Would you buy it over the X-Trail?
