Electric cars generally come with a sleek and aerodynamic design to maximise range. However, Kia is taking a completely different approach with the EV9. Kia today unveiled the EV9 concept at the Auto Expo. In today’s article, let’s talk about the 2023 Kia EV9 India.
Concept design
Kia has taken complete creative liberties with the design of the EV9 concept. The design is a big box that Kia has shaped into a car. At the front, we have a closed grille with several chrome elements. Kia has replaced the grille with pixel-like DRL lights. The concept car comes with side-opening doors and dual-tone alloy wheels. In the interior, we have an outlandish design. The centrepieces of this interior are the 27-inch screen that houses the infotainment system and instrument cluster.
Specifications
The Kia EV9 is based on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform. The EV9 will share its version of the platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 7. What about the motor? The Kia EV9 could share its powertrain options with the Hyundai Ioniq 7 as well. Reportedly, the Ioniq 7 will be offered in single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD variants, with the latter packing 308bhp. What about the range figures? Kia’s President Ho Sung Song has confirmed that the EV9 will offer a range of 540km and will be able to travel 100km in just 6 minutes of charging.
Kia EV9 – India launch?
Kia is already testing the production version of the EV9 in South Korea. According to South Korean media, the EV9 could debut in September. South Korea could be its first market, followed by Europe and the USA. Will it come to India? There is no official confirmation, but we could see Kia bringing the EV9 in limited numbers like the EV6. The EV9 could be priced higher than the EV6.
