Honda compact SUV teased: To rival Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos when launched later this year

It’s finally happening! After what seems like ages the Japanese multinational automaker Honda Motor Co., Ltd’s Indian subsidiary Honda Cars India Ltd. has announced that they will be bringing a much-needed SUV into their Portfolio this summer. Honda Cars India recently shared a teaser picture of this forthcoming SUV on their social media channels and it has sparked the interest of a ton of people in the country.

The official Twitter handle of the company Honda Cars India shared a picture stating,”Kicking off 2023 with a sneak peek of the upcoming All-New Honda SUV. Premiering this summer. #HondaCarsIndia #HondaSUV”. According to the company, “The All-New Honda SUV has been designed at the Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co., Ltd. following extensive market surveys in India for people’s changing lifestyle requirements and expectations from Honda for their new SUV in terms of design & performance.”

As of yet, it has not been revealed in exactly which SUV segment this forthcoming SUV will fall, however, it is believed that it will be rivaling the likes of the SUVs that currently compete in the compact SUV segment. Most probably it will be direct competitor to the segment champion Hyundai Creta. Furthermore it will also give a stiff competition to the Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and a ton of others that currently sit in the same segment. According to sources the company has given this SUV a codename of PF2S.

Currently there is no information about which powertrian this SUV will be launched in the country howver reports have suggested that  Honda will probably launch it with a hybrid petrol engine rather of a diesel motor due to the onset of new emission norms ready to be implemented in India. A 1.5 litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine is most likely to power the Honda SUV’s petrol variant. This engine has a max torque of 145 Nm and 119 horsepower. The fifth-generation Honda City sedan also has this particular engine.

Reportedly Honda Cars India is also working on the development of a subcompact SUV which has been codenamed PF2 as well. This subcompact SUV once launched will also compete with segment leaders such as Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza and a few others.

According to a ton of experts it has been believed that Honda Cars India for a long period of time was in a desperate need of SUVs in the country. And the launch of these SUVs will help it turn around its declining growth in the country. As of now company’s product portfolio in India includes Honda Jazz, Honda Amaze, Honda WR-V, Honda City and Honda City e:HEV.

In other Honda news, recently a quick walkaround of the RDE compliant 2023 Honda Amaze was released on YouTube. Honda has made a few small adjustments to the front and rear of the vehicles’ general design. It still has a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine, which this time around is RDE compliant and produces 88 horsepower and 110 Nm of peak torque. For those who are unaware, all domestic automakers will need to upgrade the semiconductors to monitor the throttle, crankshaft positions, air intake pressure, engine temperature, the composition of the exhaust emissions, and programmed fuel injectors to manage the amount of fuel burned.
