Jeep and SUV customisation and modifications are popular in Punjab. There are many workshops, that excel at jeep modification works. We have featured many of them on our website in the past. In most cases, a rusting old Mahindra jeep is usually converted to look like brand new. Many of them even do restoration work too. Depending on the budget and customer’s imagination and request, the nature of modification work differs. Here we have a custom-made jeep that has been neatly modified to look like a flat rod. These jeeps are modified into a rat rod-ish form and they are common in US markets.
The video has been uploaded by Dayakaran vlogs on their YouTube channel. As mentioned above, Punjab is one of those states in India, where people love jeeps and there are several modification workshops in the area too. One such workshop is Khan Brothers Modified jeep which is located in Punjab, Haryana border. They have modified several 4×4 SUVs and jeeps in the past but, this is probably the first flat rod or rat rod jeep in India. The video mentions that many people have started copying the design already.

The chassis and body of the jeep has been completely reworked to achieve this look. The chassis has been extended to the front. The body is wider than stock jeep and the wheelbase has also increased. The front wheels are pushed forward and they are now placed outside the body and is now sitting with the extended part of the chassis. The chassis has been reinforced and battery packs have been installed under metal parts of the extended portion. The body of the jeep looks like Willys but it is not. The headlamps are aftermarket unit and there are a pair of auxiliary lamps in front of the jeep.
The jeep has been completely lowered and the suspension on this jeep has been taken from a Mahindra Scorpio. The front gets disc brakes while the rear are drum units. The steel rims have been replaced with wide-looking chrome aftermarket wheels. The wheels are wrapped in 31-inch chunky-looking off-road spec tyres. The engine on this jeep is not the same. The original engine has been replaced with a 2.4 litre Toyota diesel engine. The video clearly mentions that these jeeps are not road legal as they do not meet the safety standards of the country. This is a custom project and that is why the components have been sourced from many other vehicles.
The video then shows the interior of the jeep. It is a 2-seater jeep with custom seat covers and expensive audio system. The speakers, sub-woofers and amplifiers are all placed under the rear seat and it is completely closed. The finished product does look very good and is definitely going to attract a lot of people on the road. We have seen several low-rider jeeps but, this is the first time, we have seen a flat-rod jeep. It took the workshop around 4-5 months to finish this project and it costs around Rs 7-8 lakh.
