Five new Tata cars launching this year: Punch CNG to Harrier Red Edition

2023 saw the return of the Indian Auto Expo which came back after a hiatus of 3 years due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Major automakers from the country like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motors, and MG India introduced a ton of new vehicles. Another one of the country’s top automakers Tata Motors also graced the show with its presence. The indigenous automaker displayed a total of 14 cars at the show amongst which a few were a complete surprise. However not all of the models showcased at the show will be launched this year, but if you want to know about the ones that will be coming this year, read on!

Altroz CNG

Most likely the first car that Tata Motors will be launching this year will be brand’s newest CNG model – the premium hatchback Altroz CNG. The all-new model will has been introduced with the country’s first dual-cylinder setup. Both these tanks have a storage capacity of 30 litres each. The factory-fitted CNG kit will come attached to a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine.

The CNG powered Altroz powertrain will be capable of producing 77 bhp of power and 97 Nm of torque, lower than 86 bhp of power and 113 Nm of torque in their standard petrol versions. Apart from this the car will not receive any further changes on the exterior design or the interior layout. This model is anticipated to be launched sometime in the middle of 2023.

Punch CNG

Just alongside the Altroz CNG, the CNG iteration of the highly popular micro-SUV Punch was also showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. Like the Altroz CNG the Punch CNG will also come equipped with the same dual-cylinder CNG setup. It will also get the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine which will generate 77 bhp of power and 97 Nm of torque.

Apart from the i-CNG insignia on the rear boot there will be no difference in the design of the Punch CNG as well. The ICE variant’s features like the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, halogen projector headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, a push start-stop button, a digital instrument console and a voice-activated sunroof will also be seen in the CNG model. The Punch CNG will most likely also have its official launch by mid 2023.

Altroz racer

As a surprise to most of the people, Tata Motors took the covers off of the Hyundai i20 N-Line’s direct rival Altroz Racer at the Auto Expo 2023. The new Altroz Racer will come powered by the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine that also powers the Nexon. It will generate a maximum power of 120 PS and a peak torque of 170 Nm, which will be more than the 110PS and 140 Nm outputs of the Tata Altroz i-Turbo. The car will come with TA78 six-speed manual transmission instead of the five-speed manual transmission available with the i-Turbo.

This new sportier variant of the standard Altroz will have a brand-new 10.25-inch touchscreen display with fresh software in addition to the more potent engine combination. Additionally, it will come standard with an air purifier, ventilated front seats, six airbags, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, and charger. New all-black upholstery with red contrast stitching, red and white stripes, and Racer embossing on the head restraints will also be added to the Altroz Racer. In March 2023, the company will probably introduce this new hot hatch in India.

Harrier Red Edition

Auto Expo 2023 also saw the launch of yet another edition of the flagship SUV siblings Harrier and Safari from the Indian automaker. Tata Motors introduced the Harrier Red Edition at the show and like every prior new edition this time also the SUV did not get any aesthetic or powertrain alteration.

Nevertheless, it did manage to obtain the eagerly awaited Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This mid-size SUV now comes with ADAS features including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), front collision detection, lane assist, and even traffic sign recognition. The Red Dark model will also come with six airbags in addition to these state-of-the-art collision avoidance technologies. The Harrier Red Edition’s precise launch date is yet unknown but it will most likely come in the next few months.

Safari Red Edition

As mentioned, the Red Edition of the Safari also shared the stage with the Harrier Red Edition. The newly launched SUV only gets few minor changes on the outside like the red accent on the grille and red brake calipers along with a new shade of black called the ‘Oberon Black’.

Like the Harrier, the Safari now also comes with ADAS features and both the SUVs also get all-new ‘Carnelian’ red seat upholstery with a quilted pattern, red leatherette grab handles, grey dashboard trim, and piano black accents on the steering wheel. Both SUVs will now also get larger 10.25-inch infotainment screens and 360 degree cameras. The powertrains will remain same on both cars. As for the launch the Safari will also go on sale the same time as the Harrier Red Edition sometime in the coming few months.
