Honda City is the king of mid-size sedan class: 2022 sales numbers revealed

With 2022 recently rounding up, it’s now time for the results of sales of the popular segments of vehicles in the country. And for this, one of the first segments is the mid-size sedan segment. This segment comprises vehicles like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Slavia, and Volkswagen Virtus. Thanks to Rushlane for compiling the final results of the sales of the mid-size sedan segment, we can now have a look at who came out on top last year in terms of overall sales volume.

1. Honda City

With a total sales of 38,335 units in the entire year of 2022, the Japanese automaker Hondas mid-size sedan City has been reported to be the most sold vehicle in its segment. On average Honda managed to dispatch around 3,195 units of the City every month including the ICE and the hybrid e:HEV. Over the course of the year, no other vehicle in the segment managed to dethrone the City from the top spot and every every quarter the car had a staggering sales figure. The biggest quarter for Honda was the Q3 where the company managed to sell just a little over 10,000 units of the car.

2. Skoda Slavia

Second on the list was the newly launched sedan from the Czech automobile manufacturer Škoda Auto. The despite coming in so recently the company managed to sell a ton of Slavia’s in the country and hence managed to retain the second spot on this list. The sales started in February of 2022 and by December Skoda managed to dispatch a total of 22,617 units. The average for Slavia sales was 2,056 and best quarter for the mid size sedan was Q2 where it had 7,662 sales.

3. Hyundai Verna

Verna 1

Despite being out for a long time without any new radical facelift the South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor India’s Verna managed to bag the third spot on this list. The final sales tally for the Verna stood at 19,238 units. Meanwhile its average sales came in at about 1603 units per month. Furthermore the best quarter for Verna sales was Q4 where the company dispatched around 5,742 units beating out the Skoda Slavia. Although it may seem like the Verna sales are low in comparison to the City it has to be noted that the model is long due for an update which should be coming in middle of this year.

4. Maruti Suzuki Ciaz

Fourth spot on this list been covered by the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s Ciaz. The company managed to sell a total of 16,930 units of the Ciaz in 2022. The average sales per month was recorded as 1,411 units meanwhile the best quarter for Ciaz sales was the Q1 where the company dispatched a total of 5,412 units of the car.

5. Volkswagen Virtus

Last but certainly not the least the German automaker Volkswagens mid size segment sedan Virtus lodged a total sales of 12,699 units. Monthly average sales were 1,587 more than Ciaz and the best quarter was Q4 with 4,475 units sales. It is to be noted that the Virtus would have been much higher in the sales chart rankings but because of its delayed launch it missed out on a ton of sales in 2022. The sales for the Virtus began from May of 2022 and considering the total amount despite missing out on these many months it has been quite impressive.
