Tata Nano goes off-road with Mahindra Thar: This is how it performed [Video]

When we talk about off-roading, SUV or 4×4 automatically come to our minds. There have been instances when people have driven 2WD SUVs on rough terrains and have had fun. In most cases, these cars gets stuck or the driver does not take the car to such extreme situation where it can get badly stuck. Rarely we have seen people take hatchbacks for such experiments. Here we have a video where a Tata Nano is being driven off-road. This small hatchback went for off-roading with an old generation Mahindra Thar and Scorpio 4×2 SUV.

The video has been shared by Honey_vlog on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger and his friends were going for an off-roading session in their cars. One of them has a Mahindra Thar 4×4 old generation and the other has a Mahindra Scorpio 4×2 SUV. The car which does not fit into the league at all is the Tata Nano which belongs to the vlogger. The vlogger has decided to take this small hatchback for off-roading with his friends. They all start driving the SUV to their off-roading spot. They soon turned away from the proper roads to mud tracks.

Vlogger was driving in his Tata Nano at the end and the Scorpio 4×2 was in front of him. In one of the hairpin turns, the Scorpio lost traction and the rear wheels can were spinning freely. The car was carrying momentum which is a good thing and it managed to turn and climb up. Soon they reached the spot and the Mahindra Thar driver was the first to go up the obstacle. It is a small obstacle but tricky. It is a steep climb with a mud pit on the other side. Mahindra Thar driver engages 4×4 and slowly crawls up the steep section. There was no drama and the SUV managed to climb up and drive through the small slush section.

After Mahindra Thar, Scorpio 4×2 driver got excited and he decided to climb up the same section. The driver attempts to climb up but unfortunately, it gets beached at the top. The rear wheels were away from the ground and it was unable find traction. When they found that the SUV is stuck, everyone in the group pushed the SUV back. The Scorpio driver wanted to try his luck again but the result was no different. After this, it was Tata Nano’s turn to climb up.

The vlogger sat inside the car and simply drove up. It did not get beached and just like the Thar, it managed to climb up without much drama. The hatchback even managed to cross the slush part. It did get stuck eventually in the slush but, it managed to perform well in off-road conditions. At least, it was better than the 2WD Mahindra Scorpio in the video. How did Nano managed to do it. There are couple of reasons for that.

First of all, Tata Nano is a small car with an extremely short wheelbase. This is the reason why it did not get beached while climbing up. When compared to other SUVs in the video, Tata Nano has almost no overhangs which would rub against the ground while climbing up or coming down. The wheels are pushed to the corners just like in a go kart. The engine on Tata Nano is not the most powerful but, it sends the power to rear wheels which is quite helpful while climbing such steep sections. The rear wheels can easily push this lightweight car up the track. These factors along with the lightweight body ensured that the Nano driver has fun. Although, it was fun to watch a car like Nano in off-road conditions, we don’t recommend doing it. If you really want to take your Nano off-road, at least have a back up car with all the time, this would help you recover the car, in case it gets stuck
