Mercedes Benz India gives a detailed price breakdown of all its cars. So the base price of the Maybach S Class in India is 1.73 crore, which is quite close to the US pricing. But then it faces a series of taxes like 14% CGST amounting to Rs 24.31 lakhs and 14% SGST amounting to Rs 24.31 lakhs. Moving forward, we have a 20% compensation cess amounting to Rs 34.72 lakh. This all leads to the car’s net ex-showroom price shooting up to Rs 2.57 crore. Wait, we also have 1% TCS on the net ex-showroom price adding up to 2.57 lakhs. All these lead to the total ex-showroom pricing of 2.59 crore.

Maybach S Class price – Conclusion

Maybach S Class price

As you can see for the same variant in India, it is around Rs 1 crore more expensive than the USA pricing. Sadly all the taxes heavily inflate the prices of luxury cars in India. And we haven’t factored in the on-road pricing of the Maybach S Class, which goes to Rs 3.04 crore in Mumbai. While in North America, the same car after being specced and out and taxed is $209,000 in a state like California, which has anyways got high taxes. In Indian rupees that is – around 1.70 crore. So we can see the wide price gap of Rs 3.04 crore in India vs Rs 1.70 crore in North America is what we pay in India. Luxury cars are a niche segment but we can see this segment do more volumes if the taxation is lowered. So what are your thoughts about taxation in India? Should the government lower the taxes?
