Skoda Superb to be relaunched in India

The elegant and sophisticated Skoda Superb is set to make a comeback in the Indian market. This exciting news comes after a pause due to the implementation of strict BS6 Phase II emission norms in April 2023. Skoda India, determined to bring the Superb back to Indian roads, has devised a plan to reintroduce this luxury sedan in limited numbers.
Unlike its previous presence, where it was locally assembled in India, the Superb will now be imported as a CBU (completely built unit). Skoda plans to bring this iconic sedan to India under the government’s GSR 870 rule, which permits manufacturers to import up to 2,500 units of any right-hand-drive vehicle categorized under M and L segments without requiring homologation.

This reintroduction of the Superb in the Indian market will feature the updated 2.0-liter TSI engine. This robust powerplant produces 190hp and is paired with a seamless 7-speed DSG gearbox. The shift from local assembly to CBU importation allows Skoda India to reintroduce the Superb without the need for homologation.

It’s worth noting that the current-gen Skoda Superb is approaching the end of its life cycle. This reentry into the Indian market serves as a temporary measure until the arrival of the all-new fourth-gen Superb, which is expected to make its global debut in the near future. Skoda has already given us a glimpse of the next-gen Superb’s interior and equipment, raising anticipation among auto enthusiasts.

The upcoming Skoda Superb will boast a range of new features, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to luxury and innovation. It will be available exclusively in the top-spec L&K trim. For the first time in India, the Superb will incorporate ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) features, including lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control capable of handling speeds up to 210kph. Additionally, it will be equipped with park assist, complete with a 360-degree camera.

As for its aesthetics, the Superb will be offered in three distinctive exterior paint shades: Rosso Brunello (New), Water World Green (New), and Magic Black. The standard alloy wheel size will be 17 inches, crafted by Stratos. Inside, it will feature the Columbus Infotainment system, a noteworthy addition that wasn’t available in the previous made-in-India Superb. Skoda’s adaptive chassis control technology will be standard, along with an active tire pressure monitoring system and a comprehensive safety package comprising nine airbags.

While the official price details are yet to be unveiled, some dealers are already accepting unofficial bookings for the Superb, with estimated prices hovering around the Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom) range. Auto enthusiasts can expect more information on the Superb’s re-launch in the coming weeks, and the return of this iconic sedan is undoubtedly an exciting development for luxury car aficionados in India.
