The Thar 5-door is going to be the next big launch for Mahindra. It has been testing the car for a long while now. But of late, we are getting very unique spy videos of the car. Last week, we saw the Thar 5-door trying to water wade, and today we have a video of the car testing near Umling La, the highest motorable road in the country. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Mahindra Thar 5-door.
Spy video
The spy video was sent to us by one of our readers, Prathamesh Agarwal from Umling La. Mahindra seems to be conducting high-altitude tests on the Thar 5-door as seen from the spy video. We can see the test equipment mounted at the back instead of the spare alloy wheel. Look closely, and you can also see the sunroof. Overall, the design is the same as the 3-door model, which shouldn’t be the case on the production model.
What else to expect?
The 5-door of the Thar could share its mechanical bits with the Scorpio-N. So, we can expect the platform and engine specifications on the Thar 5-door. It could come with a 2.0-litre petrol (200bhp/370Nm) and 2.2-litre diesel engine (172bhp/370Nm). The transmission option should include a manual and an automatic option. Feature-wise, Mahindra could give it a bigger infotainment system, a new centre armrest and overall more storage spaces.
Mahindra Thar 5 door – Launch timeline
The Thar 5-door is not coming this year, as confirmed by the brand. However, it will surely come sometime next year. We could expect it in the first half of 2024. What about the pricing? The Thar 4×4 currently starts from Rs 16.60 lakh and goes to Rs 20.34 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). We can expect a price hike of Rs 2 to 3 lakh on the Thar 5-door.
