The new video shows a crushed Mahindra XUV700 inside the service centre of Mahindra, where it is likely to be restored and repaired under insurance. There is someone in the driver’s seat who is operating the car and driving it around.

The video shows that the car’s roof supported the massive weight of the truck, and while it saved the passengers, it also kept the engine, steering wheel, and transmission in running condition. It is likely that the beat-up vehicle reached the showroom on a tow truck, and then the employees of the service centre drove it around to its designated place.
How did the accident happen?
The container truck tipped over, engulfing the passing XUV700 underneath. Multiple pictures depict the XUV700 bearing the weight of the truck, yet it remarkably remained somewhat intact. The vehicle’s pillars eventually gave way and collapsed, but they still managed to withstand the truck’s weight.
The occupants of the car emerged safely from the ordeal. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported in this incident, although details about the number of passengers in the car at the time of the accident remain unavailable.
Can accidents like this be avoided? Realistically, not entirely. However, one can exercise extra caution when driving alongside heavy vehicles such as trucks. Quick overtaking maneuvers can minimize the time spent beside these massive vehicles, potentially reducing the risk of such incidents.
Are such vehicles safe to drive?
While the insurance surveyor may give a go-ahead to repair this vehicle, one should know that such heavily crushed vehicles might not be fit to drive on the roads. As the structure of the vehicle has been crushed, it will be mended again using hammers and tools. The structure would not be as safe as a fresh structure. XUV700 is based on a monocoque chassis, it is likely that the vehicle will be mended by cutting and welding the chassis. The front-end of the vehicle though, where the crumple zones lie, is safe in this accident.
The new SUV from Mahindra has clinched the ‘Safer Choice’ award from Global NCAP, owing to its exceptional performance in the crash tests conducted by the agency. The Mahindra XUV700 had become the second car in Mahindra’s history to achieve a complete five-star rating. The SUV received these crash test ratings based on the previous rules, which did not include a side crash test.
