Driver crashes into truck after high-speed road rage incident with Mahindra XUV700: Dashcam footage

We have been saying it repeatedly and will say it again, road rage is extremely dangerous and one should refrain from indulging in it. This latest incident caught on dashboard camera shows how a driver, furious at a recklessly overtaking XUV700, chases it in anger and loses control, finally crashing into a truck. And the entire incident was caught on the driver’s own dash cam!

The video shows a four-lane highway where we can see a slow-moving Datsun being followed by Mahindra XUV700 and another vehicle that was involved in the incident. While we are not sure about the speed limit of this road, the Datsun is likely lane hogging and did not move when the other vehicles wanted to overtake.

To overtake the slow-moving Datsun, the car with a dashboard camera moved to its left and started the overtaking manoeuvre. Suddenly, the Mahindra XUV700 started overtaking as well. It is possible that he did not see the other vehicle as it was in the blind spot. Even though there is a blind spot detection system in the Mahindra XUV700, it is only available with the top-end variant.

Nonetheless, the move by the Mahindra XUV700 was dangerous and it almost collided with the car that was recording the video. The reckless move infuriated the driver of the car with the dash cam. He sped up, and possibly wanted to cut across the nose of the XUV700 or block the SUV.

However, the vehicle lost its control while the driver attempted that and his car swiped the Mahidnra XUV700’s side. The vehicle spun out and collided with a truck that was parked on the shoulder of the road. You can hear the other passengers screaming when it happens. While no injuries were reported in this incident, the outcome could have been worse.

Who was wrong here? Well, all the motorists involved. The Datsun was lane-hogging and was not allowing other vehicles to pass safely. The Mahindra XUV700 did not check its blind spots and the car that crashed was extremely rash.

Handle road rage with patience

Road rage is a situation that can occur unexpectedly and escalate rapidly. It is crucial to maintain calm while driving or riding, especially on the chaotic roads of India. Here are some tips to help you avoid road rage incidents:

Stay Relaxed: Driving should be an enjoyable experience. Make an effort to stay relaxed. Turn on some music and the air conditioner to create a calming atmosphere. Take deep breaths and try to maintain a positive mood while on the road.

Follow Traffic Rules: Stay within the speed limit, use signals when changing lanes, regularly check your rearview mirrors, and be prepared for the mistakes or aggressive behaviour of others.

Practice Politeness: Be courteous to fellow drivers. For example, when at a roundabout, yield to vehicles approaching from the right as they have the right of way. If a car signals its intention to change lanes and is already halfway in, slow down and allow it to merge rather than close the gap.

Stay Calm and Ignore Aggressive Drivers: Even with your best efforts, you may encounter overly aggressive drivers. Signs of such behaviour include excessive honking, tailgating, gestures, profanity, lane weaving, abrupt speed changes, and aggressive braking. In such cases, it’s best to let these drivers pass and hope that karma catches up with them. Engage your mind by thinking about your friends and family to quickly calm your nerves.

Remember, maintaining your composure on the road is essential for your safety and the well-being of others. Road rage rarely leads to positive outcomes and is not worth the stress it can cause.
