BMW X1 Electric – BMW’s affordable electric SUV

BMW is all set to introduce its 2nd electric SUV in India and 4th EV overall. Currently BMW EV line up includes the i4 sedan, i7 sedan and the iX SUV. But now we will have another electric SUV from BMW, the iX1. The iX1 is basically the electrified version of the BMW X1 which is the most affordable BMW SUV. So what can you expect with this new BMW X1 electric SUV?

BMW X1 Electric – Design and Interiors

BMW X1 was the brand’s best selling SUV in FY2023. It received a major facelift early this year with significant changes done to exteriors and interiors. So the iX1 could be equipped with similar styling bits and can expect a few EV specific elements added to it.

The exterior design will be exactly the same as the ICE counterpart except for added blue accents on the bumpers, side step and the front grille. The iX1 could also come with a 10.7-inch touchscreen and BMW’s curved digital information display system which we saw on the new X1. The iX1 could also come with an optional panoramic sunroof and front massage seats.

Powertrain

The BMW iX1 will get BMW’s xDrive technology. It will be powered by a 66.5kWh battery pack and two electric motors. The motors are capable of producing a combined power of 309bhp and 494Nm of peak torque. It comes with a claimed range of 440km and BMW claims that the iX1 can go to 0-100kph in 5.6 seconds. The battery pack will be capable of DC fast charging of up to 130kW.

Launch & Pricing

The BMW iX1 is all set to be launched on 28th September 2023. BMW is likely to bring the SUV by CBU routes and thus it could be priced on the higher side. So we can expect it to be priced at around Rs 65 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) to Rs 75 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, BMW assembles the X1 locally in India and so they can assemble the iX1 locally as well. This will eventually enable them to launch the iX1 at an affordable price.
