India’s first Mahindra Thar modified with Lumilor paint looks stunning [Video]

The Mahindra Thar is actually one of the most popular 4×4 SUVs available in the Indian market. It was launched in 2020, and since then, the current-generation Thar has had a long waiting period. It is now a very common SUV in off-roading groups. It has also been a popular SUV in the modification circle, and we have seen a variety of modified examples of this SUV in the past. It is one of the most affordable 4×4 SUVs one can buy in India. Here, we have a Mahindra Thar that has been modified in such a manner that it glows up at night. Don’t believe us? Watch this video to confirm the same.

The video has been uploaded by Explore the Unseen 2.0 on their YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger gave his SUV to a workshop for modification work. He was inspired by videos from other countries where people were applying paints to their cars that used to glow at night. This particular technology is called Lumilor, and we have seen people paint their riding helmets with this paint before. However, painting a car in a similar way is an extremely difficult task. The vlogger somehow found a garage that does this job.

This is actually a technology that is even used on aircraft. The benefit is that this technology uses a small amount of power to light up a large area. The process started by deciding the pattern that they wanted for the car. The front grille was replaced with a Wrangler-type unit, and the vertical slats were given the Lumilor paint finish. The front caliper also got a similar section with a light in it. The side profile of the SUV got a wild-looking pattern that looks like off-road tracks. The name of his YouTube channel can be seen on the side of the bonnet as well.

Once the pattern and design were decided, the work started. The gloss finish on the original paint was sanded off so that the newly applied paint could stick properly. This paint consists of multiple layers that completely convert the surface into light. A layer called the backplane is applied, which defines the area on the car that will emit light. It is a highly conductive, low-resistance material. Above that, you apply the dielectric layer, which ensures that there is no burning or short circuit. It also ensures that the current is distributed evenly to produce even light.

The third layer is the Lumicolor. This is a material that is usually painted under black light to ensure it spreads evenly. This is also the layer that decides the color of the light that the paint will emit. Over this layer, a busbar is installed, which allows the backplane material to provide better current distribution. On top of this, you apply a conductive top coat that allows Lumilor to emit light. Above all, you can apply another layer of clear coat to get an even finish.

The wiring for this work is done carefully and neatly. It is not evident on the outside, and that is what makes it beautiful. The lights are controlled using buttons placed inside the cabin. The final look of the car was simply brilliant, and this is the first Mahindra Thar in the country to get this type of paint job. Other than this, the owner has painted the roof and the claddings in gloss black. The bumper has been upgraded, and the ORVMs also get a carbon fiber finish. This is definitely a one-of-a-kind SUV in the country, and it was making people turn their heads when they spotted it on the road.
