The launch of the new Nexon has shaken the compact SUV segment. Tata has loaded the Nexon with everything needed in this segment and more. However, the competition is not going to take it lying down. The Kia Sonet facelift is going to get a design refresh. We could see a new DRL setup on the facelifted model. We could also see a slightly tweaked grille and front bumpers. In the side profile, we could see new alloy wheels. In the rear, we could have vertical tail lamps like the new Seltos. Probably, Kia will also offer sequential indicators to compete with the new Nexon.

The Sonet is already one of the most feature-loaded cars in this segment. Even with the launch of the new Nexon, Sonet goes toe to toe with it in terms of features. On the facelifted model, we could see new upholstery, new HVAC controls, slim bezels on the infotainment, digital instrument cluster, 360-degree etc. The Sonet facelift is also expected to come with ADAS, which is missing on the new Nexon. 

Specifications

Kia Sonet facelift will continue with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (82bhp/115Nm), 1.0-litre turbo petrol (118bhp/172Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel engine (114bhp/250Nm). Transmission options will include manual, iMT, CVT and DCT. Nexon is mostly on par with almost everything offered by Sonet here, barring the diesel automatic. Sonet is the only C-SUV with this engine and transmission option.

The Kia Sonet facelift is just around the corner. According to reports, Kia could launch the Sonet facelift by the end of this year. What about the price hike? Currently, the pricing of Sonet facelift starts from Rs 9.13 lakh and goes to Rs 17.87 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). We can expect a price hike of Rs 60k to 70k, depending upon the variants.

So, coming to the questions, should you wait? As stated above, the Nexon offers almost everything needed in this segment & more. It has gotten segment-leading features and a new design. The Nexon should be your ideal pick. The only reason to wait for the Sonet facelift is if you want the probably ADAS tech and a diesel automatic gearbox. In the end, if you can wait then it is better, but you won’t regret buying the Nexon.
