Car sales generally pick up pace in September, and this September was no different. It is generally due to the onset of the festive season. Yesterday, we covered the top-selling cars list, and today we are doing it for the SUVs. So, did your favourite SUV make it on the list? In today’s article, let’s talk about the top SUVs in September 2023. 

10. Mahindra Bolero

Starting up the list at 10th place is the Mahindra Bolero. Mahindra sold 9,519 units of the Bolero in September. A slight hike from the 9,092 units sold in August. Even with all the modern SUVs in Mahindra’s lineup, the Bolero continues to be one of its best-sellers. The SUV is especially popular in rural areas due to its ruggedness and capabilities. Specs-wise, it comes with a 1.5-litre diesel engine capable of producing 75bhp and 210Nm of torque. Pricing-wise, the Bolero starts from Rs 11.70 lakh and goes to Rs 13.10 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

Top SUVs September 2023 – 9. Kia Seltos

The next car on the list is the Kia Seltos. In September, Kia sold 10,558 units of the Seltos, almost similar to the 10,698 units sold in August. According to Kia, it has a big backlog of deliveries, which it is finding hard to fulfil due to production constraints. Recently, the Seltos got a major facelift. In this, it got a new design and new features like a digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and more. The Seltos comes with three engine options – a 1.5-litre turbo (157bhp/253Nm), a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (113bhp/144Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (114bhp/250Nm). Transmission options include a Mt, iMT, CVT and even a DCT gearbox. Pricing-wise, the Seltos starts from Rs 12.98 lakh and goes to Rs 24.64 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

8. Maruti Fronx

The Fronx continues to bring in good sales figures for Maruti. In September, Maruti sold 11,455 units of the Fronx, a slight drop from the 12,164 units sold in August. Another good thing is the design which has gained eyeballs from a younger audience. We also have the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (98bhp/147Nm) and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (88bhp/113Nm). Feature-wise, it gets a 9.0-inch floating infotainment system, ARKAMYs sound system, heads-up display, 360-degree camera, six airbags etc. Pricing-wise, the Maruti Fronx starts from Rs 8.66 lakh and goes to Rs 15.37 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

7. Maruti Grand Vitara

The Grand Vitara is constantly beating the Seltos in sales figures. In September, Maruti sold 11,736 units of the Grand Vitara, a decent spike from the 10,486 units sold in August. Maruti will be hoping the Grand Vitara soon catches up with the Hyundai Creta. The Grand Vitara comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with mild and strong hybrid setups. It also comes with an AWD option. Features-wise, we have a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, 9.0-inch infotainment system, coloured heads-up display etc. Pricing-wise, the Grand Vitara starts from Rs 12.57 lakh and goes to Rs 23.32 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The Scorpio duo of Classic and N are the best-selling Mahindra SUVs. In September, the duo raked in combined sales of 11,846 units, a decent hike from the 10,522 units sold in August. Mahindra has played quite well with the Scorpio. The N caters to modern buyers looking for features in a rugged package & powerful engine options. While the Classic continues to tap into the existing fan base of the Scorpio with its rugged and no-nonsense attitude. Pricing-wise, the Scorpio Classic starts from Rs 16.20 lakh and goes to Rs 20.78 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), While the N starts from Rs 15.95 lakh and goes to Rs 29.94 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

5. Hyundai Venue

The Hyundai Venue is giving good company to the Creta in this list. In September, Hyundai sold 12,204 units of the Venue, a decent hike from the 10,948 units sold in August. Recently, Hyundai added ADAS to the Hyundai Venue, making it the first compact SUV to offer this feature. Other features include a 4-way powered driver seat, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ambient nature sounds and drive modes. Specs-wise, we have three engine options – a 1.0-litre turbo petrol (118bhp/172Nm), a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (81bhp/113Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (113bhp/250Nm). Pricing-wise, the Venue starts from Rs 9.14 lakh and goes to Rs 16.11 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

4. Hyundai Creta

Following the Venue, is the Hyundai Creta. In September, Hyundai sold 12,717 units of the Creta, a slight drop from the 13,382 units sold in August. Even with the rumours of a facelift, the Creta is selling like hotcakes, which is remarkable. Currently, the Creta comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol (113bhp/143Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel engine (113bhp/250Nm). Both the engines come with manual and automatic gearbox options. It comes with features like a 10.25-inch infotainment system, semi-digital instrument cluster, panoramic sunroof etc. Pricing-wise, the Hyundai Creta starts from Rs 12.90 lakh and goes to Rs 23.03 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

3. Tata Punch

Tata’s gamble of launching the Punch is working like a treat. In September, Tata sold 13,036 units of the Punch, a decent hike from the 12,315 units sold in August. The Punch with its tall boy design and nifty features is doing quite well. Specs-wise, it comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (87bhp/115Nm). There is a CNG option too (72bhp/103Nm). Unlike other CNG cars, the Punch offers good enough boot space with its twin-cylinder technology. Pricing-wise, the Punch starts from Rs 7.12 lakh and goes to Rs 12.05 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The Brezza has dropped to the second spot in this list. In September, Maruti sold 15,001 units of the Brezza, a decent hike from the 14,572 units sold in August. Specs-wise, the Brezza comes with a tried and tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine capable of producing 101bhp and 136Nm of torque. It is also the only compact SUV to offer a CNG option. Feature-wise, there is a heads-up display, 360-degree camera, 9-inch infotainment etc. Pricing of the Brezza starts from Rs 9.66 lakh and goes to Rs 16.62 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

1. Tata Nexon

Guess who’s back at the top? It is the Tata Nexon back where it belongs. In September, Tata sold 15,325 units of the Nexon, a major hike from the 8,049 units in August. It is not a surprise that this sales hike is due to the facelifted model. In the facelift, Tata has updated the exterior and interior design. You get new features like a 10.25-inch infotainment, blind view monitor, 360-degree camera and height adjustable driver & co-driver seat. The Nexon also comes with two engine options – a 1.2-litre turbo petrol (118bhp/170Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (113bhp/260Nm). Pricing-wise, the Nexon starts from Rs 9.55 lakh and goes to Rs 18.72 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
