The Indo-Japanese automotive giant, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, recently launched its most affordable MPV, Rumion, in India. This is another one of the badge-engineered models, which has been created in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki India Limited, and it is based on the Ertiga MPV. The model has quickly gained popularity in India, so much so that the company had to halt the bookings for the base variant of the Rumion. Recently, a video showing this popular MPV’s base variant in detail has now been shared online.
The in-depth video walkaround of the base S variant of the Toyota Rumion MPV has been shared on YouTube by MR Cars on their channel. It starts off with the presenter mentioning that the car in front is the base S variant of the Rumion. He mentions that it is one of the only cars in India that even in the base variant offers an automatic transmission. He explains that the Rumion comes available in three variants – S, G, and V.
Following this, it is further explained that the S variant comes with two powertrain options and two transmission options. The first powertrain is a petrol engine option with either a manual transmission or an automatic transmission. Next up, this is the only variant in the range that comes with a CNG engine option. After this, the presenter adds that the mid-spec G variant comes only with a manual transmission option. Lastly, he adds that the top-of-the-line V variant once again comes with both the manual and automatic transmission options.

Toyota Rumion base S variant exterior
Moving on, the presenter shows the exterior of the S variant of the Toyota Rumion. He mentions that on the front, the Rumion gets a different style of grille from the Maruti Ertiga on which it is based. He adds that this grille ties the Rumion model with other Toyota models and it looks very similar to the Toyota Innova’s front grille. Next up, he adds that despite being the base variant, the car gets a decent amount of chrome on the front. Lastly, the presenter shows that the base S variant misses out on fog lamps; however, it does manage to get projector halogen headlamps.
Next up, the video then shows the side profile of the Rumion. From the side profile, it can be noted that there are no visual differences between the Rumion and the Ertiga MPV. Both get the same 15-inch steel wheels with no wheel covers. The window moldings are also finished in matte black, and there is no chrome garnish. Lastly, the video shows the rear end of the vehicle, and except for the Toyota, Rumion, and Neodrive badging, everything is just the same as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
Toyota Rumion base S variant interior
Following the exterior walkaround, the presenter moves to the interior of the MPV. On the inside, he mentions that the Rumion looks exactly like the Ertiga, and the only difference is the Toyota badge on the steering wheel. The Rumion base S variant misses out on a touchscreen infotainment system but gets a small built-in music system from the company. It also gets steering-mounted Bluetooth and audio controls. The presenter also shows the automatic transmission of the car and adds that even in the base variant, it comes equipped with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.
Pricing and engine
As for the pricing and drivetrain, the Toyota Rumion S automatic transmission shown in the video is priced at Rs 11.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Rumion base S variant with a manual transmission, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 11.29 lakh. Meanwhile, the Rumion comes equipped with a 1.5-liter petrol engine, just like the Ertiga, under its bonnet. This engine produces a maximum power of 101 bhp and 136 Nm of torque. As mentioned, it comes with the option between a 5-speed manual and automatic gearbox.
