First Toyota EV in India to be this?

Earlier this year in January 2023, Maruti Suzuki showcased its first ever electric car concept, the eVX. Codenamed as YV8, the Maruti EV is expected to launch in India in 2025. Also, the car was spotted testing on multiple occasions which revealed a few details. But what’s the relation with Toyota? Well as we all know Maruti and Toyota are rebadging their cars and launching under their own portfolio, the eVX too is expected to be launched under Toyota and it will be the first Toyota EV for India. The test mules of eVX were spotted testing in Poland and interestingly Toyota has a manufacturing plant in Poland. This also supports the claim of some reports that Toyota will launch the rebadged version of eVX. So what should we expect from this Toyota EV SUV? Let’s find out!

Toyota EV – Design

Toyota EV - Maruti eVX

Design wise the Toyota’s EV version will be very similar to the Maruti eVX. However, as seen on the current lineup of Toyota-Maruti rebadged cars, Toyota could make a few aesthetic changes to differentiate itself from the eVX. The expected changes could include tweaked headlamps and tail lamps, tweaked bumpers, Toyota family grille, and different set of alloy wheels.

Rest it could be very similar to the eVX. The eVX gets a bold front with an upright bonnet with an EV-like closed up front grille. It gets C-shaped DRLs that surround the grille along with sharp cuts and creases as shown on the concept cars. Overall, the eVX has a very wide stance and has an amazing road presence.

On the side profile it gets alloy wheels and a sloping roof line and overall has a tall stance. Whereas at the rear it will possibly get LED tail lamps. The rear profile of the eVX seems to have a coupe-like SUV design.

Interiors and Features

Thanks to the spy shots, we were able to get a sneak peek of the interiors of the eVX. The interiors were completely covered but the dashboard placement looks tall. It also has a twin-screen setup which may house a touchscreen system and a digital instrument cluster. The spy shots also revealed vertically styled AC vents, a floating centre console, and a set of buttons in the centre. The steering wheel was a two-spoke unit which is very unique to other Maruti cars.

The overall interiors could remain untouched once it is launched as a Toyota. However, the steering wheel will boast a Toyota logo instead of Suzuki. The SUV could include features like 360-degree camera, frameless IRVM and advanced technology like ADAS. What would be interesting is to see if they equip the SUV with ADAS level 1 or level 2.

Battery pack specifications

Powering the eVX will be a 60kWh battery pack and the same powertrain will be offered for Toyota’s iteration as well. The said battery pack claims a range of 550km and should return a real life range of 450-500km. There will be a base variant with a smaller battery pack of 48kWh. The real life range of the battery pack would be around 400km.

Toyota EV – Launch Timeline

The eVX is in a testing phase and Maruti and Toyota will take their time to launch this SUV. It is said that the SUV will be launched two years from now in 2025. It was showcased as a concept by Maruti but will be interesting if Maruti launches it first or Toyota.
