2 Compact SUVs to get ADAS soon to take on the new Nexon!

The compact SUV segment is the most successful segment in India. SUVs like Nexon, Brezza, Sonet, Venue have been consistent in top selling cars in India. Also, the best of the segment Tata Nexon received a major facelift recently and has upped the game of compact SUV segment. However, it missed on a very important feature that the competitors are keen to provide in their SUVs. It is ADAS! A few days ago Hyundai introduced ADAS in Venue to become the first compact SUV to offer this feature. But now another 2 compact SUVs are also said to get ADAS. Which are they? Let’s find out.

To compete with stronger products like the Nexon, Kia has decided to give a facelift to the Sonet. With facelift, the Sonet will receive minor but important changes inside and outside. It is said to receive a list of new features which also includes ADAS.

Venue and Sonet are sisters as they share the same platform and similar list of features and engine options. So after Hyundai equipped the Venue with ADAS, it seems pretty likely that the Sonet will also get ADAS. The ADAS features on the Venue will be shared with Sonet facelift. The list includes – forward collision warning, forward collision avoidance assist – car, pedestrian & cycle, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning and driver attention warning. It also includes convenience features like lane following assist, high beam assist and leading vehicle alert.

Rest the Sonet facelift will receive several changes like redesigned bumpers, redesigned headlamps, connected tail lamps, refreshed dashboard design, and a new dual colour interior theme.

Spec vise the Sonet facelift is likely to remain the same. It will continue to get the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol (81bhp/115Nm), 1.0-litre turbo petrol (118bhp/172Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (113bhp/250Nm) engine. Transmission options include manual, iMT, DCT and a torque converter gearbox.

The Sonet facelift has been spotted testing multiple times and is expected to launch by the end of this year. The starting price of the Sonet facelift could be Rs 10 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) and could go up to Rs 18.70 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, just like the Venue, the variants of Sonet that come with ADAS would be priced under Rs 15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The Mahindra XUV 300 was launched back in 2019 and is said that it will soon receive a major facelift. The SUV was bound to receive a facelift as it was lacking in terms of upmarket appeal when compared to its competitors. Also, with a facelift, the XUV 300 is reportedly said to come equipped with ADAS.

According to Mahindra, ADAS was the key feature that buyers were considering while buying the flagship Mahindra SUV, the XUV 700. Impressed by the demand, Mahindra has planned to introduce ADAS to other SUVs which could also include the XUV 300. 

The XUV 300 facelift is expected to bring overall improvements in the current model to make it ready for competition. A test mule of XUV 300 facelift has been spotted and although it was completely camouflaged, the test mule revealed few expected design elements.

Being a facelift the XUV 300 could get redesigned bumpers. Also, the overall exterior design looks inspired by the BE05 electric. The design cues include sleek headlamps and C-shaped LED DRLs. Even the front grille could be more prominent from before. The side profile could largely remain the same with the alloy wheels to be the only expected change. The rear tail lamp design might mimic the design elements of the headlights. It could get new C-shaped LED tail lamps which may get the connected treatment and a new rear spoiler. Overall, the test mule of XUV 300 facelift seems a lot muscular when compared to the current model.

Even the interiors are expected to receive some major revisions. The dashboard layout and centre console could be changed in the facelift. A spy shot has also revealed a new and bigger floating-style touchscreen system. Other features include- first in segment panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, latest AdrenoX UI with OTA updates, ventilated seats, digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charger, and of course, the ADAS.

The Mahindra XUV 300 facelift will likely continue with the same engine options from the current model. It will get the 1.2-litre turbo petrol (109bhp/200Nm ), a more powerful 1.2-litre TGDI (129bhp/230Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel (115bhp/300Nm) engine. Transmission options include manual and AMT for turbo petrol and diesel engines while the TGDI engine comes paired with the sole manual transmission. 

Mahindra XUV 300 has been spotted testing several times in the last few months and so we expect the SUV to be launched in the first half of 2024. With facelift we expect a price hike of Rs 70k to Rs 80k, depending upon the variants.
