The Tokyo Motor Show is here and the Japanese automaker giant Suzuki has revealed India’s favourite hatchback, the Swift. A few days back Suzuki released the pictures of the new Swift and Suzuki called it as a concept. Well, even in the Tokyo Motor Show the brand called it a concept but we believe the hatch to be an almost production ready model. So what is the new Maruti Suzuki Swift all about? Let’s find out.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift – Exterior
Talking about the design, Suzuki has retained the silhouette and overall styling of the outgoing Swift. Upfront it gets similar looking headlamps but the styling gets some minor tweaks. Also the unit is blacked out to give it aggressive appeal. Other changes include a new grille with honeycomb pattern and the Suzuki logo has now been shifted on the hood. There is a front camera onto the grille and a plastic panel which supposedly houses the radar for ADAS. The front bumpers have also received some tweaks and the front fog lamps get different housing and look much cleaner than before. There are some noticeable design changes on the bonnet too. It gets an SUV-like clamshell bonnet with a new and evident horizontal shut line. Overall, the new Swift looks fresher and aggressive than the outgoing model.
Even the side profile of the car remains more or less the same. A major design change can be seen on the rear door of the hatch. Suzuki has repositioned the rear door handles. They were previously placed on the C-pillars but are now placed on the doors itself. The change has helped the brand to add a quarter glass, making the cabin more airy and less claustrophobic. Other changes on the side profile includes the new alloy wheels.
Changes can be seen on the rear as well. For starters the new Swift gets all new LED tail lamps. Again, just like the headlamps the shape of the tail lamps is the same as before but gets new design elements. They are inverted C-shape style tail lamps and overall the tail lamps get transparent glass, replacing the red glass from the current model. It also gets redesigned rear bumpers and overall Suzuki has maintained the design language as the current model.
Interior and Features
Suzuki has made changes to the interiors as well. The new gen Swift gets an all new dashboard layout with black and white dual-tone theme. A new free standing touchscreen system is a welcome addition as previously it was integrated onto the dashboard. The old circular AC vents are redesigned as horizontal vents. The AC control panel also appears to be new along with new graphics for the instrument cluster. The feature list includes – all new 9.0-inch touchscreen system that could get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also, it now gets ventilated seats, ADAS, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and Suzuki may also enhance the safety by offering 6-Airbags.
New Maruti Suzuki Swift – Engine and Transmission
The new gen Swift will get a strong hybrid powertrain and boost the fuel efficiency of the hatch. Now the exact power figures are still unknown but we believe it to be a 48V strong hybrid powertrain. However it will be interesting to see if Suzuki launches the new Swift with hybrid powertrain in India. The other engine will be the same 1.2-litre engine that powers the current gen model. It is a petrol engine that produces 88.5bhp and 113Nm of torque and comes paired to a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT transmission.
Launch and Price
The fourth gen Suzuki Swift has debuted in the Tokyo Motor Show in a concept avatar. However, it looks more like production ready rather than a concept. It will launch in Japan later this year and could come to India in early 2024. With the changes, a price hike of Rs 80k to 1 lakh is expected over the current model.
