A few days back, Suzuki unveiled the all new Swift in the Tokyo Motor Show. Like always, we covered all the details of the new Swift. Now, the dimensions of the new Swift are revealed and compared to the current gen, the new Swift is longer than before. But will that translate into more space inside the cabin? Let’s find out as we compare the dimensions of the new and old Maruti Swift.
New Maruti Swift – Dimensions
So as you can see from the table, the new Swift is 15mm longer than before. However, the wheelbase is the same at 2450mm. So although the car measures 15mm longer, it may not help in cabin space as the wheelbase is untouched. We believe the extra 15mm could help in more boot space. Interestingly, the new Swift is 30mm shorter and 40mm narrower than the before. So it will be interesting to see if it hampers the headroom and the shoulder room.
What do we know?
The new Swift gets minor tweaks inside and out but the overall design remains the same. It gets a new front grille which also houses the radar for ADAS. On the side, the door handles for the rear doors are now placed on the doors which helped Suzuki to add a quarter glass to make the cabin less claustrophobic. The rear also seems very similar to the current model with minor tweaks to bumper and tail lamps.
Inside, the new Swift gets a revised dashboard layout with a bigger touchscreen taking the centre stage. It also gets new features such as – all new 9.0-inch touchscreen system that could get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Also, it now gets ventilated seats, ADAS, 360-degree camera, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and Suzuki may also enhance the safety by offering 6-Airbags.
New Maruti Swift – Engine Specs
The new Swift has been launched with an option of hybrid powertrain in Japan. However, we may not get the hybrid Swift in India. What we will possibly get is the new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Z-series engine. Power figures are yet to be revealed of this new engine but we believe it will deliver more torque than before. Also, this new engine is expected to achieve a claimed mileage of 40kmpl.
India launch
The fourth gen Suzuki Swift has debuted in the Tokyo Motor Show in a concept avatar. However, it looks more like production ready rather than a concept. It will launch in Japan later this year and could come to India in early 2024. With the changes, a price hike of Rs 80k to 1 lakh is expected over the current model.
