The rivalry between the Tata Safari and Mahindra Scorpio is one that has been ongoing for ages. Both of these SUVs have fiercely competed with each other for decades, continuously one-upping each other. Now, with the release of the new 2023 Tata Safari facelift, it was just a matter of time before someone did a comparison of these SUVs. Recently, a video of exactly this comparison has been shared online.

The video presenter takes his own Mahindra Scorpio-N to the unloading yard of a Tata Motors dealership where he compares the two SUVs side by side, showcasing their complete exterior and interior designs and thoroughly comparing them.

Powertrain and Chassis
Before comparing the exterior designs of the two SUVs, the presenter discusses the engine specifications. He starts with the Mahindra Scorpio-N and adds that this SUV comes with two engine options. The first is a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which produces around 200 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the other engine is a 2.0-liter diesel engine generating around 175 bhp and 400 Nm of torque.
Next, he delves into the Tata Safari facelift’s engine, mentioning that it comes with the same engine as before: a 2.0-liter Kryotec turbocharged diesel engine, producing around 170 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The presenter then adds that the Mahindra Scorpio-N is a proper SUV with a ladder-on-frame chassis and a rear-wheel-drive layout, while the Safari facelift comes with a monocoque chassis and a front-wheel-drive layout.
Exterior Differences
Dimensions
Following the engine specifications, the presenter addresses the dimensions of the two SUVs. He states that to many people, the Scorpio-N may seem like the larger vehicle. However, only its height is greater than that of the Safari. The Safari exceeds the Scorpio-N in terms of length and width. He notes that the Safari offers 200 mm of ground clearance, whereas the Scorpio-N provides only 187 mm. Additionally, after folding the rear seats, the Scorpio-N offers 460 liters of boot space, while the Safari provides only 420 liters.
Exterior Design
Continuing the video, the presenter moves on to discussing the exterior designs. He starts with the Safari, mentioning that it offers a more futuristic and premium design resembling that of Range Rovers. However, the Scorpio-N presents a much more muscular and bold appearance, resembling a capable off-road vehicle with a more aggressive street presence.
Interior Design
Transitioning from the exterior, he enters both SUVs one by one. He notes that the Safari is more feature-packed and tech-loaded compared to the Scorpio-N, offering a plush and luxurious interior. He further adds that although the Scorpio-N doesn’t exude the same level of luxury as the Safari, its cabin is still decent, providing good materials and technology. Additionally, both cars come equipped with ADAS features and other important safety features including multiple airbags and alert systems.
