Volkswagen’s new SUV coming to rival the Jeep Compass

Volkswagen is going to bring a very exciting product to India. Can you guess it? If your answer is the ID.4, then it is correct, but is that exciting? Yes, but not as exciting as the new Tiguan which was recently unveiled globally. Now Volkswagen is almost certainly going to bring the new Tiguan to India to take on the Jeep Compass.

New Exterior design

The new Tiguan comes with a front design very similar to the Taigun sold in India. The difference is that it comes with a closed grille and bonnet-wide DRL design. Then we have the LED projector headlamps completing the front look. Sadly, going with the trend, the new Tiguan misses out on fog lamps. Volkswagen has tried to make the Tiguan sporty as seen in the side profile with the sloping C-pillar. At the rear, we have surprise-surprise connected tail lamps. It seems like this is one trend that is not going to end soon.

If you thought the exterior had gotten a sporty outlook, interiors take that a step further with an all-black theme complimented by red highlights. However, the biggest highlight of the interior has to be the 15-inch infotainment system. The system comes with inbuilt maps, Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, and touch-sensitive buttons for AC controls. Overall the cabin looks quite plush with a good fit and finish visible in the photos. Other features on the Tiguan include a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, front massage seats, a heads-up display, a wireless phone charger, Park Assist Pro with remote capability, and trailer assist.

Engine specifications

In India, the new Tiguan will continue with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine capable of producing 187bhp and 320Nm of torque. Transmission options should include a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Globally, the Tiguan comes with a new plug-in hybrid system. Considering we currently don’t have any plug-in hybrid options, Volkswagen should take the lead and become the first manufacturer to do so.

New Volkswagen Tiguan – India launch

As stated above, Volkswagen unveiled the new Tiguan earlier this year. Volkswagen is yet to confirm if this new Tiguan will come to India or not. Even though the Tiguan is not a high seller, still Volkswagen should bring it to India. We think the new Tiguan could come to India by the end of 2024. The new Tiguan could be priced around the Rs 50 lakh mark (on-road, Mumbai).
