Hyundai’s most unique 7-seater coming?

People have started considering EVs as a real option in the last few years. However, a major hindrance is that options are still quite limited. We currently don’t have a mass-market 7-seater EV. The only 7-seater EV option in India is the Mercedes EQB. Hyundai could change that by bringing the Alcazar EV. Will it happen? and what to expect? Let’s find out.

Will it happen?

Hyundai Alcazar EV

Jumping straight to the question, will it happen? Well, Hyundai is yet to confirm anything. However, we already know that the brand is working on the Creta EV. The Creta EV has been spotted testing a fair few times. To those of you who don’t know, the Alcazar is essential the 7-seater version of Creta. So, if Hyundai is working on the Creta EV, it makes sense that we see the Alcazar EV, too. There are currently no mass-market 7-seater EVs, and that would give the Alcazar EV a unique advantage.

Hyundai Alcazar EV – What to expect?

As stated above, the Creta EV has been spotted a few times. However, the test car had no major exterior changes. Hyundai seems to be just testing the components on this car. The production version of the Creta EV is expected to get all the changes that the facelift is going to get. We can expect the same on the Alcazar EV. The EV version could get a different grille and bumpers to add a layer of differentiation. The side profile will be more or less similar, and the rear could get new tail lamps & EV badging.

Battery and specifications

Now, guessing the battery and motor specs is tricky, as we don’t have any products to benchmark the Alcazar EV. The Alcazar EV will need at least a 50kWh battery pack to give it a decent enough range. Range-wise, the Alcazar EV will need a claimed range of at least 500km, which would trickle down to about 360km to 380km in real-life conditions. Power could range between 160 to 170bhp. Take this estimate with a pinch of salt, as the launch is still a long way away, and we could see a lot of improvements in battery and motor specs by then.

Hyundai Alcazar EV – Launch & pricing

The Creta EV is stated to be launched by the end of 2024 or sometime in 2025. We think if the Alcazar EV happens, it will be launched after the Creta EV. So, a reasonable timeline for the Alcazar EV could be in the second half of 2025. What about the pricing? The Alcazar EV could start from Rs 25 lakh and go to Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Once launched the Alcazar EV will rival the Tata Harrier EV and Mahindra XUV700 electric.
