It is no secret that Mahindra is working on the 5-door Thar. We have been rigorously covering it and the SUV is expected to come next year. So what if you are planning to buy the normal thar? Should you wait for the 5-door model? In today’s article, let’s talk about the Mahindra Thar 5-door.
Design & space
The Thar 5-door is naturally going to be bigger than normal Thar. With the extra length, we can expect better legroom and thigh support in the second row. Also, the Thar 5-door will come with a usable boot space. Overall the Thar 5-door could be much better for long-distance travel and families. Design-wise, the overall silhouette of the Thar 5-door is very similar to the normal Thar. However, there are some subtle changes like a new grille, LED headlamps and LED DRLs.
Mahindra Thar 5-door – More features
The Thar 5-door is going to get slightly different interiors with new upholstery and some more creature comforts. We recently got a sneak peek into the interiors which revealed a new 10-inch floating infotainment system. Other changes in the interior include a new button layout and brown upholstery giving it a more premium look. The spied car also had a centre armrest and cup holders not present on the 3-door model. Also, the Thar 5-door is expected to come with India’s most loved feature i.e. the sunroof.
Mahindra Thar 5-door – Specifications
The Thar 5-door is expected to share its platform & mechanical bits with the Scorpio-N. So we can expect better handling and comfort than the 3-door version. With its bigger dimensions, it is also expected to come with more power. We expect the Thar 5-door to come with a 2.0-litre petrol (200bhp/370Nm) and a 2.2-litre diesel engine (172bhp/370Nm). Transmission options could include a manual and automatic gearbox. Seeing the success of Thar 4×2, we can expect a 4×2 version even in the 5-door.
Conclusion
The Thar 5-door seems to be quite an exciting option. It is going to come with more space, more features and powerful engines compared to the normal Thar. We would suggest waiting for the Thar 5-door model. Mahindra has stated that it plans to launch the Thar 5-door sometime in 2024. Hopefully, we see the Thar 5-door in the first half of 2024. What about the price hike? The Thar 5-door is expected to start from Rs 18 lakh and go to Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
