Volkswagen Virtus 1.5 GT DSG vs Hyundai Verna Turbo MT in a drag race: Here’s the result [Video]

When a new car is launched in the market, we start seeing a lot of videos related to it on social media platforms. While many of them are reviews, there are others who actually buy the car and share their experiences. They share every good and bad thing about their new vehicle on social media. People often compare the performance of their vehicle with cars from the same segment and conduct friendly drag races to check their performance. Here, we have a video where a Hyundai Verna 1.5 Turbo sedan with manual transmission competes with a Volkswagen Virtus in a drag race.

The video was shared by Tushar Goel on his YouTube channel. The vlogger recently bought the Hyundai Verna turbo petrol version with a manual transmission, and the car has only covered 1,400 km. He wanted to test the performance of his sedan against one of its direct rivals, the Volkswagen Virtus. The Virtus comes with a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine with a 7-speed DSG transmission, generating 150 Ps and 250 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Verna turbo generates 160 Ps and 253 Nm of torque.

On paper, the Verna appeared more powerful, and the owner seemed confident too. Both sedans lined up at the start, and the AC was turned off for the race, along with the traction control. The Virtus was in Sport mode, and the driver planned to launch the car. The Verna was also in Sport mode with two occupants inside. The race began, and almost immediately, the Hyundai Verna took the lead.

Wheel spin was audible from both cars; however, the laggy DSG transmission in the Virtus held it back. By the time the Virtus gained speed, the Verna was already in the lead and had built a considerable gap. The Virtus driver couldn’t catch up with the Verna at any point. The Verna driver was pleased with the performance, as he had been very confident about the car.

When the first round ended, the Virtus driver informed the vlogger that the car did have an initial punch when launched, but the persistent lag affected the performance. He mentioned he wouldn’t attempt any more launches, as the chances of damaging his gearbox were quite high.

Both prepared for the second round with the same settings. The race began, and once again, the Verna took the lead. This time, however, the gap between the Virtus and Verna had reduced. The Virtus was giving tough competition to the Verna. For the third round, the drivers swapped in the Verna, yet even with a new driver, the Verna maintained the lead. The Virtus couldn’t overtake the Verna at any point.

They even tried a rolling start to minimize the DSG lag, but it didn’t help. At one point, the Verna driver missed a gear, and despite this, the Virtus couldn’t take the lead. The main reason behind this was the power. The Verna is slightly more powerful than the Virtus, and the manual transmission also helps the driver extract the best from the vehicle. On the other hand, while the Virtus is a good car, the DSG transmission in this sedan isn’t helping it in this case.
