So let’s start with one of the best selling SUVs, the Hyundai Venue. Venue is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options but today we will talk about the diesel variant. The diesel engine of the Venue is one of the best options if you want a fuel efficient car. It is offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine which produces 114bhp and 250Nm of torque. It comes mated with a sole 5-speed manual transmission. Talking about the fuel efficiency, the Venue diesel comes with a claimed mileage of 23.4kmpl. The Venue diesel is priced between Rs 12.84 lakh to Rs 16.11 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
Tata Nexon
Next, we have the best selling SUV, Tata Nexon. The SUV recently received a major facelift and now comes equipped with a lot more features. It comes with a turbo petrol engine but is also offered with a diesel engine which is indeed a fuel efficient unit. The Nexon is offered with a 1.5-litre diesel engine which produces 113bhp and 260Nm of peak torque. It comes mated with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT transmissions. Talking about the claimed mileage, the Nexon diesel has a fuel efficiency of 24.08 kmpl. The Nexon diesel is priced between Rs 13.33 lakh to Rs 18.72 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder
The SUV with highest claimed mileage under Rs 20 lakh is the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The reason being, it is the only SUV to offer the option for strong Hybrid under Rs 20 lakh. It comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The engine produces 91bhp and 122Nm of torque whereas the motor produces 79bhp and 141Nm of peak torque. Talking about the fuel efficiency, the Hyryder Hybrid has a claimed mileage of an impressive 27.97kmpl. It is the rebadged version of the Maruti Grand Vitara but the Hybrid variant is more affordable than the Grand Vitara. Talking about the pricing, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder starts at Rs 19.55 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
Maruti Fronx
Finally, we have the latest entrant in today’s list, the Maruti Fronx. Maruti is known for offering fuel efficient cars and the Fronx is no different. In fact it is the only pure petrol SUV that could be included in today’s list. Maruti Fronx is offered with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.2-litre non turbo petrol engine. However, we will talk about the 1.2-litre engine as it is the most efficient among the two. The 1.2-litre petrol engine on the Fronx produces 89bhp and 113Nm of peak torque and comes mated with manual and AMT transmissions. Interestingly, it is the AMT variant that offers more mileage of 22.89kmpl. Whereas the manual has a claimed mileage of 21.8kmpl. Maruti Fronx with the 1.2-litre engine is priced between Rs 8.66 lakh to Rs 10.72 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
