First showcased in Auto Expo 2023 and later in the Tokyo Motor Show, the Maruti eVX always grabbed a good amount of attention. The SUV was also spotted testing multiple times in India and outside India. However, we were always keen about what Toyota’s version of eVX will look like. Well, the wait is over as the official photos of Toyota Electric SUV concept are revealed. Toyota calls it the Urban SUV Concept and here’s what it looks like.

Toyota Electric SUV – Design
Talking about the design, the Urban SUV concept shares a few design cues with the maruti eVX. However, it does look very different from Maruti’s iteration. The front has a more Toyota family look which we can see on recent Toyota EV SUVs. The concept is showcased with connected LED DRLs and closed-up front bumpers. There are air vents on the lower bumpers along with an interesting element to enhance the design. There are no headlamps on the concept but we can expect them placed vertically on the edges of the bumpers, just like the recent Tata SUVs have. Overall there are not many sharp cuts on the front but it still looks very muscular.
It is the side profile where we see some similarities of the Maruti eVX. The body panels and the outline is very similar to the eVX. It includes – squared wheel arches, black claddings, sloping roofline, and bulging rear fender. And just like the Maruti eVX, the rear door handles on the Toyota Urban SUV are placed on the C-pillar. The front door handles are in conventional position but they are flush-type door handles. Similarities can be seen on the rear too. Toyota Urban SUV gets the sporty roof spoiler like the Maruti eVX. However, the swept back design on Toyota’s SUV is not as sharp or aggressive as on the Maruti. Rest, even the Urban SUV gets the connected LED tail lamps with unique tail lamp design. Overall, the Toyota Urban SUV has few similarities with the Maruti eVX but looks very different.
Dimensions
Apart from the photos, Toyota has also revealed the dimensions of the Urban SUV. It measures – 4,300mm in length, 1,820mm in width and 1,620mm in height. Overall the dimensions are very similar to the Maruti eVX. What also we are expecting to be similar is the wheelbase. The Maruti eVX will likely have a wheelbase of 2700mm and the same can be expected for Toyota EV SUV as well.
Toyota Electric SUV – Interior
Now, Toyota has not revealed the interiors of the Urban SUV but we can expect similarities with the interiors of the Maruti eVX. Maruti has already revealed the concept of the interiors of eVX which gives us the glimpse of how they would look like. The talking point of the interior of eVX is the large single display panel on the dashboard. It is similar to what we saw in spy pictures and the display could house a touchscreen system and a digital instrument cluster. Also, it has a very unique yoke-style designed steering wheel. Other interior highlights include a rotary-styled gear lever, ambient lighting and touch-sensitive HVAC controls.
Battery Specifications
Toyota has not shared anything about the battery specifications and range. However, they will likely share the exact powertrain with the Maruti eVX. Both these SUVs will be based on the 27PL skateboard platform which is specifically designed by Toyota for EVs. Both the SUVs will probably sell in single and twin electric motor setups. The twin motor setup will make the SUV AWD capable. Powering these SUVs will be a 60kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 550km and real life range of 450-500km. There will be a base variant with a smaller battery pack of 48kWh. The real life range of the battery pack would be around 400km.
Toyota Electric SUV – Expected launch
Maruti eVX is under heavy testing which can be seen from the test car we spotted. Maruti’s version is expected to launch anytime in 2025. So we can expect the launch of Toyota Urban SUV within a span of one month. Once launched, these EV SUVs will compete with the upcoming Creta EV and Curvv EV.
