XUV700 is the flagship model from Mahindra in the market. It is currently the most technologically advanced product from Mahindra and it is also one of the safest SUV in its segment. It was also the first car in its segment to offer ADAS features. There are many videos related to this feature and there have been instances where people have misused this feature. It is an extremely safe SUV with 5 star rating at Global NCAP crash test. Here we have an incident from Madhya Pradesh where a Mahindra XUV700 crashed into a truck while trying to avoid an animal on the road.
The video has been shared by Nikhil Rana on his YouTube channel. The details about the accident was shared by one of his followers. The accident happened at Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh. The accident happened two days before Diwali festival. As per the details available, an animal came in front of the XUV700. The driver was not expecting a situation like this. In order to avoid hitting the animal, the driver moved the car away from it. While trying to do so, he lost control on the vehicle. The XUV700 skid and went to the opposite lane. The SUV rolled over five times and then crashed into a truck that was coming from the opposite direction.
After hitting the truck, the SUV rolled over once again and came back to the original lane. When this accident happened, there were 5 occupants including the driver in the car and all of them survived the accident with injuries. The video however mentions that the truck driver who crashed into the XUV700 also had lost control and crashed into a tree on the road side. Sadly, the truck driver did not survive the crash.
As seen in the images here, the front-end of the SUV was completely damaged in the crash. It’s not just the front but the whole car is damaged. if you closely, the pillars, front windshield, roof, sunroof are all damaged. The wheels are damaged and the ORVMs are also damaged. At the rear, the tailgate is damaged as well. It is not clear whether the airbags in the XUV700 deployed or not. The occupants in the car were extremely lucky to have escaped from an accident like this. The video doesn’t mention anything about the speed at which the XUV700 was travelling. Looking at the condition, it is quite possible that the car was maintaining a high speed.
The XUV700 is an extremely popular SUV in the segment. This accident is actually a great example that shows why one must be extremely careful while driving through Indian roads. Stray cattle, dogs, jaywalkers are all some of the factors that contribute to such accidents on our roads. This is not the first time, an animal let loose on the road has caused an accident. Always maintain a safe speed especially if you are driving through a new road. This would help them slow down or come to a stop even if an animal or any other obstacle comes in front of the vehicle. It is also a great idea to install dash cameras on your vehicle which can be used as an evidence or for insurance claim.
