Maruti Swift diesel

Maruti diesel engines are sorely missed in the Indian market. However, the absence is felt more in its small cars like the Swift. The Swift was the perfect blend of power and mileage. It came with a 1.3-litre diesel engine capable of producing 74bhp and 190Nm of torque. The low-end torque gave it quite a quick acceleration, which would put a smile on anyone’s face. Maruti sold the diesel Swift from 2014 to 2020. With the production stopped, the Swift is in great demand in the second-hand market.

The diesel is famously referred to as the diesel rocket by enthusiasts. It used to come with a 2.0-litre diesel engine capable of producing 163bhp and 360Nm of torque. Going beyond the numbers, the car was tuned for performance. Though Chevrolet had a disappointing run in India, the Cruze still maintains its cult classic personality. A lot of people have modified their Cruze to extract even more from this already fast sedan.

Volkswagen Jetta

Another D-segment sedan on this list is the Volkswagen Jetta. The Jetta often finds itself overlooked due to the Octavia. Still, the Jetta was quite a competent car with its 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine and 2.0-litre diesel engine. The Jetta is known for its simple, but elegant design. It had a good blend of performance and comfort. Sadly, with the sedan craze dying in India, we don’t think the Jetta will ever come back to India.

Honda Accord V6

Another enthusiast’s favourite car was the Accord V6. The Accord was an enthusiast’s dream with its 3.0-litre V6 and then the 3.5-litre V6 engine. This engine produced a whooping 275bhp and 339Nm of torque. It would smoke most of the current cars in a sprint race. The Accord was not only powerful, but was very comfortable, had predictable handling, decent ride quality and good fuel efficiency for its size Though it was discontinued in 2014 it continues to remain a popular car in the second-hand market.

Cars we miss in India – Maruti Gypsy

The Gypsy was one of the cars to introduce 4×4 in the Indian car market. It showcased the market that Maruti Suzuki can also bring cars different from their bread & butter small hatchbacks. The Indian Army still uses the Gypsy due to its cheap maintenance and ruggedness. Initially, it was launched with a 1.0-litre engine. The Gypsy King came with a 1.3-litre engine which gave the car a perfect power-to-weight ratio. Maruti has tried to replace the Gypsy with the Jimny, but the Indian customer will forever miss the road presence of the Gypsy.
