The Tata Harrier and Safari were often ridiculed as they were not being tested by the brand. However, now the brand has silenced the critics by scoring 5 stars two times in less than two months. The Harrier/Safari duo became the first cars to be tested by Bharat NCAP. They also grabbed the honour of being the first 5-star rated cars of BNCAP. Tata achieving this feat is quite fitting as the Nexon was the first Indian car to score a 5-star rating in GNCAP. How did the Harrier/Safari score 5 stars in BNCAP? The Harrier and Safari duo scored a perfect 5-star, that is it achieved 5-star in both adult occupant protection and child occupant protection. In adult occupant protection, the duo scored 30.08 out of 32 (correction – 32 points). While in child occupant protection, it scored 44.54 out of 49.

Going deeper into the scores, the Safari/Harrier duo offered good results in almost all parameters in the frontal offset deformable test, side moveable and side pole test. The only cause of concern was the marginal score for the driver and adequate score in the leg area in the front offset deformable test. To summarise the score, the Harrier/Safari scored 14.08 out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test. It scored a perfect 16 out of 16 on the side moveable deformable barrier test. 

Difference between GNCAP and BNCAP

The process of GNCAP and BNCAP are quite similar. There is only one difference between GNCAP and BNCAP. In GNCAP, the maximum score in adult occupant protection is 34 points, but in BNCAP, it is 32 points. GNCAP offers two extra points for seat belt reminders. BNCAP doesn’t mandate it, but for a car to score three-star or higher the cars need front seat belt reminders.
