New Kia SUV coming in 2024

Kia cars have managed to grab the eyeballs of customers with their bold exterior design and premium fit & finish. Now building on this Kia wants to expand into the EV segment. To do this, Kia is using a top-down approach by testing the waters with premium EVs and then launching more mass-market EVs. The brand already has the EV6 which is more of a crossover. However, its next EV the EV9 is a proper boxy SUV with a massive road presence. The Kia EV9 is coming to India next year, so what to expect from this mammoth SUV?

Design details

Kia EV9 India

The EV9 is the complete opposite of your traditional EVs. It comes with a boxy front design with a good amount of road presence. At the front, you get minimal design elements with L-shaped DRLs and vertically set LED headlamps placed inside them. The side profile is where you can see the true size of the EV9. It gets massive 21-inch alloy wheels to go with the look. Another thing to note is that the EV9 doesn’t come with traditional ORVMs, but rather cameras. At the rear, we have boomerang-shaped LED tail lamps. Sigh, no connected tail lamps here, good job Kia.

Kia EV9 India – Interior & features

Kia EV9 India

The interior of the EV9 is what you expect from any Kia car. A busy dashboard design that still manages to feel minimalistic. We have dual screens on the dashboard similar to the new Seltos. Overall from the looks of it, the fit & finish seem to be on point. The seats and colours of the interior give them a welcoming look. Talking about features, the EV9 comes with 3-zone climate control, a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, a fingerprint authentication system, ADAS and much more.

Powertrain

Globally, the EV9 comes with three powertrain options. Kia hasn’t confirmed which it will bring to India. So let’s talk about all the options. The top-spec model comes with a 100kWh battery pack paired with a 379bhp electric motor. It also comes with an AWD setup leading to a lower claimed range of 500km. Next up, we have an RWD version with a 76.1kWh battery pack paired with a 214bhp motor. This setup has a claimed range of 358km. The last option is an RWD version with a bigger 99.8kWh battery pack paired with a 198bhp motor. With this setup, this has a range of 541km.

Kia EV9 India

Kia has confirmed that it plans to launch the EV9 in India sometime in 2024. Though Kia hasn’t confirmed it, we think the EV9 will come through the CBU route in India like the EV6. The EV9 is most certainly becoming the most expensive Kia car in India, with pricing expected to range between Rs 80 lakh to Rs 90 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
