Citroen Basalt scores 4 stars for both Adult Occupant Safety & Child Occupant Safety

The Citroen Basalt, a recently launched coupe SUV, has earned four-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash tests. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the French automaker, as the Basalt becomes the first Citroen model to be evaluated for safety under India’s crash test program.

According to the BNCAP report, the Citroen Basalt received four stars for both adult and child occupant protection. For adult safety, the SUV scored 26.19 points out of a possible 32, while child occupant protection was rated at 35.90 out of 49.

The crash tests were conducted in August and the variants tested included the You and Plus trims for the naturally aspirated petrol versions, alongside the Plus and Max trims for the turbo-petrol models. Both manual and automatic transmission options were evaluated.

In terms of specific safety assessments, the side movable impact and pole impact tests for adult occupants were rated as ‘Good,’ indicating strong performance in these areas. The front collision results were more varied, with ratings ranging from ‘Marginal’ to ‘Adequate.’

Citroen’s Basalt enters the Indian market at a time when safety ratings are becoming an increasingly important factor for car buyers. While the four-star rating showcases its solid safety credentials, the results also indicate room for improvement in some areas. Nonetheless, the Citroen Basalt’s performance in the BNCAP tests is a positive step for the brand as it looks to establish a stronger presence in India.
