Mumbai Toll News – What’s New

Ahead of upcoming assembly elections, Eknath Shinde, CM Maharashtra has announced a no tax for light motor vehicles (LMV) commuters using the Dahisar, LBS Road-Mulund, Eastern Express Highway, Mulund, Airoli, and Teen hath naka toll booths. This decision provides a relief for daily travellers from the suburbs. All these toll booths used to charge between Rs 45 and Rs 75 to enter Mumbai. Moreover, about 6 lakh vehicles used to travel up and down, which includes 80 percent of LMVs. The government anticipates that this measure will facilitate smoother travel for commuters entering and exiting Mumbai during this busy period.

The decision regarding the toll is expected to be implemented from 12.00 am on October 14, 2024 and will apply to vehicles like cars, jeeps, vans and small trucks. However, the toll exemption will not cover the Atal Setu toll.

While the city is preparing for increased travel during the festive season, commuters were demanding the government for a toll waiver for more hassle free travel. Having said that, this decision just ahead of Diwali is expected to have a significant impact on daily and seasonal commuters. .

As we have said that the Atal Setu toll is not exempted under this decision. This year in January, the Government had reduced the Mumbai Trans Harbour link toll rates. Currently, the MTHL toll rates for the passenger vehicles are up to Rs 250 for a single journey. Having said that, the Mumbai-Pune expressway is the most expensive toll road in India charging Rs 320 for a single journey between two cities.
