In terms of powertrain, we expect the new model to completely skip diesel and adopt a petrol and strong hybrid engine option. The 2.0-litre petrol and 2.0-litre strong hybrid engine from the Innova Hycross could do duty on the new model mated to either a 6-speed manual, CVT or e-CVT option. We could also expect a 4X4 option to be provided with the model. Reports also suggest that an EV is also being planned for the future.

Why the New Toyota Mini-Fortuner?

Toyota Fortuner Rangaa concept

Over the years, Toyota has remained unchallenged in the flagship SUV segment and made the best use of it. Since 2020, the price of the Fortuner has increased from Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai ) to Rs 62 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). This has forced even Toyota fans to reconsider buying a new Fortuner and given rise to new models like the Scorpio N and XUV700 to thrive. But now Toyota is planning a double attack with the new 7-seater version of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the new mini-Fortuner to increase its market share.
