Well, recently OEMs have released the model-wise sales number. But do these sales numbers consist of the actual sales to customers? No, the manufacturer-reported sales numbers include factory dispatches to dealerships. They are NOT retail sales figures to end customers. Generally, OEMs dispatch their models to showcase in their showrooms, As an automaker launches new models, they dispatch these models as a showcase model to attract new buyers to the showrooms. Having said that, the sales number you see is a combination of actual total sales and dispatch model.
Maruti has the highest number of showrooms in the country. It means the OEM will dispatch a greater number of models to showrooms and include it in the sales register apart from the actual sales. This is the main reason why you can’t see many models driving on the road even though the OEM registered it to be a top seller!

Talking about the OEM-wise car sales report for the month of September. While the auto industry saw a decline in the sales for the month with major automakers like Tata, Maruti, Hyundai registering negative growth despite launching new models in the country. However, Mahindra had made a comeback taking the third spot on the table pushing Tata down. Recently, Mahindra launched the new Thar Roxx in the country, the model seems to have a great demand as the brand has reported a total of over 1.7 lakh record breaking bookings on the first day itself.
