Cars To Avoid This Diwali: Maruti Dzire

The first car on this list is the Maruti Dzire. A sedan sibling to the Swift, the new Dzire is expected to debut during the first week of November. The upcoming sedan model will feature an updated design with a new grille, LED headlight, LED taillamp and bumpers. Maruti is rumoured to have significantly redesigned the front-end look of the Dzire to differentiate it from the Swift.

The new model’s interior will feature a dual-tone design borrowed from the new Swift. Key features will include a 9-inch touchscreen system, automatic climate control, a 360-degree camera, a HUD, and more. Regarding safety, expect six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, and more as standard.

The biggest update on the new model will be the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine. This unit is rated for 80 bhp and 112 Nm of peak torque mated to either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox option. Maruti could introduce petrol and CNG options with the new model at launch. Expect a price hike of around Rs 50,000 to Rs 1.2 lakh for the new model.

Honda Amaze: Up To 1.12 Lakh Off

With up to Rs 1.12 lakh off, the Honda Amaze is an exciting new car option to consider this festive season. However, Honda is expected to launch the next-gen Amaze in the country before the end of 2024. As the brand’s only new model for India this year, the Amaze will get a comprehensive making the current generation model feel outdated.

Reports suggest the new model will use a modified version of the Honda Global Small car platform to accommodate the shorter 2,470mm wheelbase. The new Amaze is expected to borrow styling cues from larger Honda models like the Accord and the Civic. The new design will feature sharp lines with aerodynamic surfaces and an LED headlamp & taillamp. Moving inside, the latest model could borrow the dashboard design from the Honda City to keep costs in check. Standard equipment will include a semi-digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, frameless auto-dimming IRVM, leatherette upholstery, automatic climate control, wireless charger and more.

Honda could offer 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, and ADAS tech with the new Amaze, making it the safest car in its segment.

Cars To Avoid This Diwali: Tata Harrier and Tata Nexon

The next two cars are the Tata Nexon and Tata Harrier SUVs which are available with attractive discounts of up to Rs 1.3 lakh. Despite these discounts, do not buy these SUVs as both models are expected to get attractive rivals soon.

The compact SUV segment is about to see the launch of the Skoda Kylaq, which is expected to offer advanced technology and power at an affordable price. Currently, the Nexon is a popular choice, but Skoda is aiming to improve the plastic quality and essential features of its upcoming SUVs. There are also rumors suggesting that the Kylaq will have a spacious cabin, making it a strong contender in the compact SUV segment.

Cars To Avoid This Diwali: Tata Harrier

In the more expensive mid-size SUV segment, the Tata Harrier is expected to face stiff competition from the barrage of EVs that are expected to hit the market soon. Among them the Tata Harrier.ev and the Mahindra BE.05 promise to be better alternatives to the current Harrier diesel. Both these models will offer an updated cabin with modern equipment like level-2 ADAS, dual-zone climate control, dual digital displays, a panoramic sunroof and more. Additionally, both models will come powered by a large 60 kWh battery pack and powerful motors that promise a claimed range of up to 500 km/full charge.
